Question for D$

Lingards dad is what 6’3 or 6’4. Lingard right now is 6’0.5- 6’1 200 pounds probably a little bigger since he’s been on campus early. Gurley was roughly the same size coming out of high school
My Great Ambassador is going to fill out naturally as he matures, and with his work ethic he'll be 230 by the time he leaves.

Homer 12-15 carries/game
Lingard 8-12 carries/game
Dallas 6-8 carries/game
I think we’ll be running the ball a lot more than 26 times per game.

I’m excited to see our two ambassadors toting the rock next year. Homer is very good too, but he doesn’t have the vision of an elite back. He and Walton tended to run up the backs of OL too often. I didn’t see that same thing from Ambassador I.

Lingard just seems to have the "it" factor when it comes to personality, leadership and work ethic.

Add in top notch talent and speed and I think he will eventually be the number one by the season's end. It is nice to finally have a back that can just fly away from defenders at a different gear.

this could be the best backfield depth since the 2000-2001 days. I really think Cam Davis is a wild card, he seems really adept at running the wheel route and catching the ball naturally out of the backfield

as for Burns, well, whatever UM gets out of him we should just consider an unexpected bonus

Dallas was the more complete back by the bowl game. He will split carries with Homer and gradually take more snaps, with Lingard getting introduced in packages. By end of season, I see Deejay and Lo with the bulk of the carries unles Travis improves his vision significantly.

Of course, a healthy Burns is the joker of the deck. All bets off with him in play.

Wow we’re really criticizing Homer?
Dallas isn’t going to be a more complete back. Lol. I love what the the kid brings and he’s gonna make plays for us but I doubt he’s gonna be an every down type of back. As I’ve been saying all season, he’s gonna be wildcat, sweeps, tosses, send in motion out as a wr.

You may be right. No expert, but I felt Dallas was better. The good news is we finally have a stable of backs that the coaches can draw from. I trust Brown and Richt to make the right call on how to distribute the ball.

One can hope that we use this offseason to change up our run schemes, especially the inside zone crap.

Those plays rarely worked, and when they did, it was either because we were playing inferior competition or that the opposing defense was worn out, which almost never happened because of how fast we would score (or go 3-and-out).

We have weapons in the backfield; now, we need to figure out ways to utilize them appropriately.

Let it be known I have zero problem with the scheme going forward, especially if that's what Richt actually wants to run. When D$ said USF I got really excited. =) Also with the RBs, TEs and FB we have coming in I'd love to see us start implementing a little of the Clemson-esque "Power Spread" into the offense, especially on short yardage - for example, using the TE/FB as a "utility" H-Back type. We did this a little with Herndon this past year and I'd like to see more of it.

Personnel-wise, think of an offensive set on 3rd and 2 that has Homer and Dallas in the backfield with Realus George motioning across the formation as an H-Back. Thomas and Richards outside with Brevin Jordan in the slot. I can think of at least six different ways to pick up a first down right now lol.

As we get closer to Spring I'll probably do another longer write-up on potential offensive ideas, but it's actually good to know we're going to keep spreading guys out with the athletes we've recruited.

FYI That's 12 players, I can think of a bunch of way to get a guy open that way too... LOL.. (unless it's wildcat) but I'm messing with you. Personally, having George, Homer and Dallas in the backfield its a bit of waste. I thikn you have do something simple on short yardage, everyone and their mothers knows its man-to-man on the outside, give your QB the pick of litter, go off the line TE strong side I formation, have 1 receiver on either side (strong side big bodied receiver, a la Brevin Jordan or Will Mallory), motion the weakside receiver across (ideally a faster one, a ala Jeff Thomas or AR) under center have the off tackle play if the box looks juicy if not have the rub play, with the semi rollout, that you saw Clemson with Watson run vs Alabama. With the talent we have a QB we should be able to get 2 yards easily, unless they sniff it out overload that one side, then the QB just flips the run call to the weakside and we should be fine.

The above are the type of RPOs that should be implemented in short yard situations, simple reads and simple pass plays, especially since you are very likely know the coverage, and have motion that confirm that coverage.

Just my two cents. FWIW I think Richt has this play or has called it, or something very similar.

Do you think it was pedestrian due to the scheme, OL, Rosiers inabaility to be a consistent passing threat, or combo of everything?

I'll say this, after watching every game, it's a big of a combination of all three in my opinion.

There were times the cutback lane was wide open and wasn't taken. There were times when Rosier should have held on the ball in some inside zone hand offs that were obviously there. But quite honestly I didn't see any creative run plays, we saw maybe a jet sweep or two, and the fake pitch inside zone, which was used too often and the timing was odd after it was displayed vs UND.
I think the above is the reason why you saw a inconsistent run game. Basically, -2 to 4 yard gains or a big 70 yard pop. This makes it hard on yourself as a play caller, not sure why he does this.
Being an OC myself, I always have 4 things out of each formation, an inside play (not every formation play was a simple inside zone), an outside play (whether it be jet sweeps, outside zone, toss etc), a misdirection play and a QB designed run. Just wondered where this stuff was at.

I think this is a case where the perception doesn't match the reality.

Last year per game we averaged:

QB - 9 carries per game
RB - 19 carries per game

All RB's had a total of 267 carries last year. If we continue using a running QB, it's going to be hard to get 3 RB's a good amount of touches.

Getting 3 legit RB's their fair share of carries is a great problem to have. Actually doing it is going to be tricky, unless we start going up-tempo a lot more.

I'm hoping for next year it gets broken out a little more like:

QB - 6-8 carries per game
RB - 24-26 carries per game

Homer definitely seems to be underrated on this board. ****, the negative talk about him is **** near disrespectful.
This..... homer was a beast last year and showed up in Miami’s big games. We don’t win Georgia tech game without him, big time runs vs FSU on the final drive, outstanding run vs va tech, ran like a man child vs Notre Dame

Just my guess for what the Regular season will turn out to be:
QB - 89 carries ~ 7.4/game (I'm pretty sure in college this includes sacks)
Walton - 164 carries ~13.6/game
Dallas - 78 carries ~ 6.5/game (most will be earlier in the season)
Lingard - 64 carries ~ 5.3/game
Trayone Gray/Robert Burns + WRs - 10 carries ~ 0.8/game

total - 405 carries ~ 33.75/game

2017 - 400 carries ~ 30.77/game
2016 - 419 carries ~ 32.23/game
2015 - 413 carries ~ 31.77/game
2014 - 435 carries ~ 33.46/game

What you guys haven't factored in is the "Snow Plow" called Realus ....

Having a real full back will help enormously...

If all goes to plan, the running backs should be getting more carries next season.

1. I don't see as much designed quarterback runs (especially if N'kosi is the starter)

2. There's actually more than one capable back on the roster now. (Dallas came on towards then end of the year but when Walton got hurt it was Homer and nobody else for a while)

3. Any improvement in QB accuracy will help sustain drives. Longer drives= more plays= more carries for running backs.

4. A legit passing threat will force defenses to back off a little more, opening up more room for the run. Richt would occasionally get pass happy because they were looking at 8-9 men in the box play after play after play.

5. Extra bodies at TE and FB will give them a few more options in short yardage situations. I'm not a "power I" formation guy but I realize the value of added blockers on 3rd and inches.

Eh, like 5 carries max for him on the season imo. I can see him getting some passes in the flat though off play action.
