Question for D$

I just wanted to thank everyone in this thread. I can't remember the last time I read an entire thread full of constructive debate and discussion. Me personally IDK who the 1 2 3 of running backs is but between these guys and our wide receivers we better be putting up 40+ points in just about every game we play. There's really no more excuses not to barring a plethora of injuries.

Any concerns about ST play..aside from coverage units? Kicking and punting were sub-par, as was KR game. Also, 100% FGs made against us...some. Career shots too. Was it coaching or sub par talent? Love Harley w TEs and recruiting but is he stretched too thin? If it was coaching or schematics, why was nobody on staff able to fix? It is beyond my knowledge, so I’d like to get some opinions. Thanks. Great thread and posts

Not D$ but I'm happy to join the discussion if that's okay. Burns, until he proves that he can stay healthy for more than half a camp, isn't worth discussing right now. It's a **** shame because of the RBs we signed last year he's the most physically gifted, IMO. He just can't seem to EVER stay healthy.

Lingard I think will play this year as a 3rd RB (or 2nd depending on where Deejay Dallas lines up on any given snap) I think Homer has earned the right to be "the guy", but Lingard will definitely get plenty of carries. Richt likes using a stable of backs and I think with Homer, Dallas, and Lingard we've got the talent and depth to really start doing some damage in the run game. As always with the young guys, it'll be about how quickly they pick up blocking schemes.

If I had to rank our RBs in terms of "playability" (i.e. how much I think they'll play), I'd go:

1. Homer
2. Dallas
3. Lingard
4. Gray
5. Davis
6. Burns - unless a miracle occurs and he stays healthy, then I'd put him at #5.

I see no in between for Burns. One more injury and he's a writeoff or he blows up. He has talent.

So ... Berrios thinks Rosier is the likely starter at QB come September. Although he, like everyone else, knows Rosier's ceiling, he seemed pretty emphatic in making that prediction. Reading between the lines, seems to me he wasn't so much saying that Perry or Weldon couldn't win the job but that they clearly would have to improve beyond where they are now to do so. And, sounded to me like he wasn't betting on that happening.

How I "read" what he said. Other opinions?

Who does Lingard bring to mind (if anyone) as a comparison among previous UM backs? (You can go back to the 60s if need be.) Or, if no UM comparables, other teams' backs?

I haven't seen Lingard in person, but from looking at him on film he is an Eddie George clone. Same type of build, same body lean, same stride.

Homer's Vision and patience as a runner must improve... Had Mark Walton not been injured we would have been undefeated headed into the ACCCG
Homer reminds me of a faster Jarrett Payton...great if the play is blocked perfect but will leave game changing plays on the field more often than not

This team needs Burns to get it together..he has what can't be taught..he has Heisman finalist ability but availability is his major problem

The part about Homer could have been said about Lamar Miller at UM. Straight line runner.

Travis homer showed a lot last year and he ran tough against big time opponents. Something most of the rbs we have had lately haven’t been able to do

I would be surprised if Choc gets more burn than Cam

So many reasons to be psyched for spring practice.

We’re discussing one position group already now. The running backs.

Think about that lineup of 4-5 guys stepping out on Greentree for the first time this spring. That’s a LOT of healthy talent.

Now let me leave you with another pleasant thought. Close your eyes and picture our stable of fast, physical, talented, receivers walking out on the dewy, wet freshly cut grass early in the morning.

COTDAM, MEN! Somebody get me a fūcking football I want to start spinning some balls to those young men. Just give me ten minutes and let me throw some outs to those beasts. I’d pay for that shlt.

I imagine long term you will see more and more of a running back by comittee at Miami. With the OL haul the last two years and potentially increasing RB depth, south florida heat, and CMR wanting to "line up and physically whip people" I expect video game like rushing numbers sooner rather than later. I think we could see Homer, Lingard, Dallas, and Davis contribute.

I’m really looking forward to our running game improving this year. That was probably the biggest problem with our offense last year. The running game was so hit and miss that it was hard to sustain drives given Rosier’s limitations.

Not a big homer fan. My hope is that Dallas and Lingard can get the majority of the carries and we can use Homer when the defense is sucking wind because that’s when he’s great.

With all these comparisons, I'll be disappointed if Lingard isn't the best RB in the country right off the bat! I mean, if he reminds people of 6 or 7 all-time great backs, how can he not be? How about Danyell Ferguson? Wouldn't a player of that caliber be more realistic?

I don’t see Dallas in a real or full time rb role. I think he’ll get some wildcat, some sweeps, line up at rb and split out in motion, etc. I think he’s more ath than rb.

Nothing wrong with that, 5X.

Love the way he runs. He just runs hard and falls forward. Perfect compliment to the stable of backs right now. He runs more aggressive than Homer. You need more than one defender to take him down most of the time and that is what we need to do more of. Grind defenses down. Control the ball.

I don’t know about that, homer has been one of Miami’s most aggressive running backs that I’ve seen play at Miami recently. Lingard is really good but that’s not necessarily his game. Even with his frame 6’1 200 plus he’s more of a speed back where if he hits a crease he’s gone

RB coach doesnt rotate backs alot if the past is any indication. Most likely Homer and Dallas will carry the load with Homer doing majority of work til he body hurts...

Lol sad but true

Richt and brown in the past have shown that they do, we just only had 2 serviceable ones this year with Dallas being new to it in terms of pass protection
