Question for D$

Richt needs to be as creative as possible on O. Way too predictable on 3rd downs. We need diversity and creativeness. Find a way to get the ball to all the playmakers on a regular basis. I want to see a well oil machined that gets the ball to multiple weapons. This will keep these kids happy. Personally getting tired of all the roster turnover.

Our lack of creativity on Offense is mind boggling. We are too creative on Defense and not enough on Offense.

Truth.

Diaz overthinks things sometimes, and Richt isn't as inventive as he should be. We've had weapons the last two years he's failed to make the most of (Njoku didn't get going until game six or seven; Herndon and DJ last year). Hopefully the embarrassment of riches at RB and WR gets those wheels moving.

Lingard right now projects as elite.

Probably not in his freshman year, but there will be some games where he will simply dominate the competition.

It will take a full year or more of the nutrition and strength program. But the combination of size, speed and strength will be something else. Give it time.

Hard to be creative when you're thin at the line, have no vertical threat due to QB limitations, have a QB accuracy problem even on screens, your best WR is injured most of the year, your bigs aren't fighting for the ball and you have no TE go-to at the end of the season. I think Richt opens up the playbook this year now that he has the personnel he's needed. We need a real QB to emerge.

Do you think it was pedestrian due to the scheme, OL, Rosiers inabaility to be a consistent passing threat, or combo of everything?

I think all of the above to an extent. I think lack of quality OL depth hurt us down the stretch as we played better opponents and our talented guys just wore down since there weren't many serviceable bodies to replace them with. Losing our #1 RB in the first third of the season didn't help of course. And as defenses started to figure out Rosier's "one-read-and-go" tendencies, they could start focusing on the run.

I don't think a good running game needs to be overly complicated or "creative" for its own sake. The run game is one of those areas where consistency and execution are paramount. That said, I think we often got caught between a zone running scheme and power concepts, sometimes in the same game, and our personnel on the OL was such that we couldn't really do either terribly effectively. We'd run zone until the defense started taking it away, then we'd run a power/trap play that would get blown up because our OL can't pull very well yet.

Ultimately, it's on Richt and Brown to find a consistent rushing philosophy and recruit to that. I do think our OL is getting there with the kind of athletic bodies we're starting to see there, and the amount of dead weight that's getting nudged out. I think we can also finally say we're developing a stable of Miami-caliber RBs in Homer, Dallas, Lingard, and Davis that can all play and bring something to the table. And if Perry or Williams can keep plays alive long enough to make throws downfield, we can keep defenses guessing long enough and late enough that you'll start to see some of those 1-yard runs turn into 5-6 yard runs and maybe more...

Important to keep building our depth at RB also. Think back to the time when our succession of RB’s was Edge, James Jackson, Najeh, Portis, Mcgehee, Gore etc. We are getting closer to recreating that.

IMO -

1. Homer & Deejay - Should almost split carries. Homer can hit a homerun with an open hole, but his vision is ok unless the hole is wide open. He also seemed to struggle reading blitz pickup. Deejay to me looked liked a more natural runner, has great vision, and adds more versatility to the position.

2. Lingard - Rotational back, really punish the defense when they are tired and Homer/Deejay need a break

3. Gray/Davis/Burns - Let's see who emerges out of Spring. Would love to see Davis on KR if he's not red shirted

Who does Lingard bring to mind (if anyone) as a comparison among previous UM backs? (You can go back to the 60s if need be.) Or, if no UM comparables, other teams' backs?

I love Homer as a player, I can watch him play all day long with his toughness and hustle. His vision is lacking though which will cost him carries now that we have depth. I’d say by mid season it’ll be a 1/3 split among Homer/DJ/Lingawd. All of them are capable of running tough and breaking a big one.

I’m excited as I’ve been in a while about the Stable of backs we have.

Interesting to see how high you are on Davis. I agree that physically he looks ready. He reminds me a bit of Mike James (in a good way!) If we can get Mike James-production out of him as a 3rd back, I think we'll all be thrilled.
He’s very good

doesnt remind of any rb we have had but he is very similar to a rb Mark Richt has coached. Todd gurley 2.0

Most of the comparisons for Lo have been to Todd Gurley, I agree with those in terms of running style.

My own comparison for Lingard has been Edgerrin James with more top end speed.

I've seen Lingard listed as being 6'2 and in 190-200 pound range. You're thinking he has the frame to put on another 20 pounds of "productive weight?" Gurley went, what, about 220 or so in his last season at UGA?

Cam Davis is Lamar Miller as a runner. There couldn't be a better comparison when they have the ball in their hands from the backfield.

Although, it is a bit strange...a few kids that played against him would say "he's soft"...but then I'd show them the clip of Cam running over them and it'd be a jokes session after that.

With all of that said about our stable of talented backs.

It means nothing if we are running 34 times per game. These guys need to be FED. Period. We ain't winning without it.

Wow, Gurley, McFadden and now Edge with more speed!! You guys are setting the bar high for the young man.

Lingards dad is what 6’3 or 6’4. Lingard right now is 6’0.5- 6’1 200 pounds probably a little bigger since he’s been on campus early. Gurley was roughly the same size coming out of high school

I see the same thing - Lamar Miller pre-shoulder injury with a little less speed.
