Putting the “concern” on paper

We like just believing we have magibcal ability to run the ball into 9 man boxes straight up the centers ***. It’ll be a problem as long as Mario is here

Amazing this year these concerns are not talent related. Last year the concern was we had can’t get right 1&2 in our secondary giving up big plays left and right. Penalties and Dawson being more aggressive are things that are easily fixable. If we get one more touchdown in the fourth against Notre dame and FSU this isn’t even a conversation. Those are too solid teams that have great players. We will be ok the rest of the year and the coaches themselves said they wish they could have gotten another touchdown. Sometimes you don’t execute it happens. We will get better as the season goes along.

Of course it’s a concern, NOT hate or unhappy team is winning…a concern

Sooner or later we’re going to play a team(s) and that football is going to take a different bounce…

Only so many times you can put this awesome defense is these situations…

It astounds me that people take umbrage with this FACT…

Muff up one of those onside kicks and we would have had a game to regret..

Which podcast said didn't say we went into a shell because Cover 3, Unnecessary roughness, The Athletic and Greg McElroy said we did.

Did I say go into a shell? Didn't use the word "shell" once into my post. Every team is going to "go into a shell" up 28-3 with 12 minutes to go in the 4th quarter on the road. Even though that's a moronic term in itself, whatever.

What I said was our coaches made zero poor decisions. We played the game the right way to end it. We didn't make any boneheaded decisions. We didn't forget to take a ******* knee. We didn't do anything to beat ourselves or make massive negative -EV plays.

Of course you're going to get more conservative up 28-3 in the 4th quarter. The only way you can lose is by turning the ball over. Everyone impartial (aka everyone except delusional fsu fans and incredibly odd Miami fans who are incapable of being happy, ever) knows the game was a thorough beating.

If you want a good one, go listen to The Jeff Cameron Show from yesterday. He's been on ESPN Radio in Tallahassee for 20 years. He's the biggest FSU homer and Miami hater you'll possibly find. He ranted for 2 hours about how much better Miami is, how completely meaningless the 4th quarter was, and if FSU played Miami 5 times, Miami would win the same way all 5 times because they're way better and proved it definitively Saturday night. He said about every single way possible in the English language that Miami is completely superior, and proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt Saturday night, and it's depressing and makes him angry to admit it, but it's true. He's not wrong. The 4th quarter meant literally nothing.

Enough with the nonsense. They got completely empty and meaningless yards at the end of the game. They scored 3 ******* points through 3 quarters, at home. The game was over in about 40 minutes of game time. They got smoked.

I'm risk averse. I want to win by at least two scores every single week. I don't like leaving even a chance of a comeback. However, it makes it harder to hate us when games end like this. Anyone watching knew there was no doubt who the better team was.

Amazing work first of all. Really good stuff (+rep for Tylenol comment)

I don’t want to pick a fight with the EFFICIENCY BROS but maybe I do…

The 3 and outs especially not converting on 3rd and short are a huge issue and an infusion of momentum for the other team

Last year we were one of the most successful 3rd down teams in college football history

I didn’t expect that this year but the people claiming that “more efficient” nonsense are awfully quiet now that games have started
I said in the off season i would bring that efficiency **** back up but we’re winning so that would be corny lol

I think the refusal of some to recognize this is wildly frustrating. These things bite you in the a** inevitably. I keep reading people say, "everyone complained about the 2001 team too". Yea, well, the greatest team ever assembled almost lost to Boston College. It was unacceptable then and it's unacceptable now. Ed Reed's entire speech in that game was him saying exactly that.

The good news is there is nothing stopping this team from correcting these issues other than themselves. More discipline and better coaching that has a feel for the team and the ups and downs. Dawson needs to learn the ebbs and flows of our current roster and do a better job play calling in the 3rd and 4th.

It's fixable. Be happy about that. If we want it, we can have it.
Great post. People here are like the fat guy dating the hot chick , happy to be along for the ride. Fans thrilled not to suck and be relevant, but what we’re doing is playing with fire. You can bet your *** the same message being preached by the “ mopes” now is being preached in the footfall facility . Coaches look for any trend they can find where they can break it. Well we have one major one staring us in the face. Jumping on people then having to hold on for dear life. That’s a recipe for disaster.

I left the ND, UF and FSU games more annoyed and relieved than excited about the win. . In all three games we dominated everywhere except the scoreboard in three quarters. Just like I was furious after the bowl loss. People said it didn’t matter but it did. Eleven wins would’ve been great to breakthrough with , winning a bowl is always better than losing and it helped against the narrative we collapse every year. Which is still brought up to nauseam . The little things matter and add up. As our fearless leader says how you do anything is how you do everything”.

Fact is I expect to win the big games now but still have fears about playing the teams that’s not respected on random Saturdays where nobody is up for , particularly in November. It’s easy to get up for nationally televised games against rivals . Which leads me back to the letting off the gas these games. That’s focus and lacking killer instinct . I’d like to see us get better in those areas where we’ll avoid getting bit by teams we have no business losing to.

Now I wouldn’t go as far to say it was sickening how we finished the game Saturday but it’s not acceptable. This team has a legit shot at a natty this year and things are setting up perfect if we don’t beat ourselves. Which is the last and major hurdle left for this team. Miami vs Miami.

Another thing being lost in this is by putting the hammer down and finishing these opponents off allows you to get younger guys in to provide them with much needed experience. I’m not sure if some have noticed but our DL depth is awful especially at de and we depend on two guys for the entire pass rush. Why put unnecessary snaps on these guys dragging games out playing conservative ?

Go watch the replay of the fourth quarter , guys were dead . Sometimes just standing up instead of rushing the passer. Off topic Moten may be the most consistent interior guy , Blay is a flash guy that disappears at times. Going forward the DL group is my biggest fear even though it’s the best group. Health is paramount there. Another reason why I’d like to finish opponents off when having the chance.

Listened to Hetherman on his game review. He acknowledged the 4th quarter D breakdowns and said that that was the first thing he addressed yesterday with his team.
Heatherman is so focused and determined...and has clarity. I trust him more than any of the other coaches to fine tune this team to a championship...

A lot of comments without context so here’s the “concern” for me with numbers to show it

Notre Dame:

Miami goes up 21-7 and forces Notre Dame to punt

The next 4 drives we gain 15 yards on 13 plays

South Florida:

The game was a beat down in the final box however Miami goes up 28-6 and forces punt

Next 4 drives combined we gain 66 yards on 13 plays including 2 turnovers

Florida:

We go up 10-0 and our defense is dominating. Forces 4 punts in a row

In the next 6 drives we run 34 plays for 123 yards get a FG and turn it over once

FSU:

We go up 28-3 and force a punt

The rest of the game we run 17 plays for a total of 24 yards

So listen it’s college football. Winning is hard. It’s not PS5 on freshman level

Our defense is routinely putting us in position for kill shots and we are struggling to get it done. Individually it’s not necessarily a big deal and ultimately may not matter but this is the only small alarm bell im concerned with at the moment

Not a “concern” maybe just something worth noting
There was some thread started about loving the *****………

I love them too but that was a ridiculous take about how it’s been every game except BC where we stalled and became as dry as a deserted ****.

Anyway - it’s a concerning trend in a bad way. It’s not a sustainable way to win games and eventually that check will be cashed on us if we don’t get this corrected.

Nobody has mentioned this, but what Mario did in the 4th gassed our players. I rewatched the game and you can see the defense was out there too long and looked tired as ****. Jmo

All of this. The only silver lining of the finish is it allows coaches to preach 4 quarters all week. And through the lead up to UL. I would be worried about losing that game due to hubris. Now I expect extreme focus.

Hetherman in his review disagrees that fatigue was a factor. He mentioned lack of focus on details and mental breakdowns. He said he addressed that first thing yesterday. I trust him to fix this concern.

Rewatch the 4th…our guys are gassed. You can see them close up. Look at their faces and bodies….the defense was out way too long. Mario should be ashamed saying the players need to close better. He needs to close better.

I made a comment to some people when it was 28-11 that I thought it was good

We were clearly the better team but Mario was LIVID. I said yes good he will be kicking their asses the next two weeks

Now I sure didn’t want it to be 28-22 and I have Mario criticisms but there’s noone more ****ed about the final score than him I’m sure of it
**** that. He has coaching malpractice lapses and they keep recurring (not taking a knee, not taking the FG, etc).

Run the ******* offense the way it has been run the entire game. The only time you dial it back is if you’re up 20 points with 5 mins left in the game.

The team got a 1st down as 3rd quarter ended, 4 fingers went up and then to start the 4th, those 4 fingers went up where the sun don’t shine. Got super tight, then false start penalty and then everything after that was just atrocious play calling and the punt the ball with like 12 mins. Ok, fine. FSU defense won that drive. No problem.

The following drive was just absolute trash and the one that really irked me. They score, then onside kick and we have the ball on their side of the field.

The play calling on that drive while only taking like 1:30 off the clock was the absolute worst. So conservative and nothing creative to put pressure on them. The defense needed a rest there. Thats when we really needed to kill them. At minimum, 3 points.

I know they're trying to shorten the game and limit chances for turnovers, but changing the style to running out the clock kills momentum and gives life to the other team. The way FSU was playing defense, they were loading the box to stop Miami from running the ball. They needed to just keep doing what they were doing, with short, safe passes replacing runs in the A-gap.
Exactly! Like the first pass of the game to Toney. Something nice and simple where you can play ahead on the down.

A 2nd and 6 vs a run to the pile that becomes 2 & 9,10 or 11 because you just run into a loaded box.
