I know the ideal scenario was always we joined the B1G but i'm wondering if someone can fill in the blanks for me as I am not really in the know.
I understand SEC/B1G have better TV deals and get more $$$ cause of that.
But lets say we stayed in the ACC- outside of $$$/endorsements what are the other potential downsides?
As it currently stands, we don't seem to have an issue with getting players to come here under Mario. And our administration seems to be willing to do whatever it takes to spend to get the players we need to make us successful.
If they expand the playoffs, it only means more teams get in (including the ACC).
So i guess my question is, would it really be THAT bad if we stayed in the ACC?
It's an easier road to the playoffs without a doubt, and as far as we can see Mario will be here for the long haul.
In our earlier dominance period we were never in a power conference, Aka Big East.
I'd also have to imagine, at some point, teams like Va Tech, Clemson, FSU, Louisville, GT etc. should all be able to be top 25 teams. Right now the ACC is down no doubt tho.
I'm just playing devils advocate. Someone who can fill me in with what i am missing, i will willingly say I dont know much about the $$$ aspects of the bigger conferences, so I am assuming maybe i am asnwereing my own question, but then again, if we continue to recruit at a high level, why not just dominate the ACC every year and get that auto bid into the playoffs?
