Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

This is exactly why I think enforcement is more likely, and deliberate noncompliance is less likely than in past instances.

Overall, the bill is meh. It's better for the players and for UM if we had expansion and unlimited NIL.

Yeah it’s all bad. I don’t really see how a judge would revoke that conference realignment clause. I don’t like the ACC’s position at all and our media contract is extended for the longest.

Does the bill have language preventing student athletes from unionizing? Because if it doesn't, that's where this is headed. I suspect that it does include it considering who is pushing for the bill's passage though.

The NBAPA isn’t apart of the AFL-CIO but the NFLPA is. What a mess going on over there smfh

Final text of the bill hasn’t been released yet, but previous summaries left the matter unclear as to whether or not it would attempt to bar that.

The AFL-CIO used this language in their opposition to the bill,

And it would also leave unanswered the question of whether or not student athletes are employees with workers rights, like the right to join a union.

Elsewhere i have seen posts where the AFL-CIO calls it a union-busting bill.

I wonder if the response to this expansion provision; there will be a splintering of the ACC. In theory nothing in that bill would prevent the programs from forming the ACC 2.0 with selective members left behind and not invited to the new conference; right?

Either that or the media rights have to be renegotiated again to make the top earners close the 25M annual gap between us and the Purdue’s and Mississippi state’s of the world.

Like we need CBS who is trying to finish their merger into becoming WarnerMount to save us from living off of ESPN who won’t pay us enough to be worth it.

NBC would be nice but ND would never allow that so it’s DOA.

Stream of consciousness 🔮 rn cuz it’s lookin ugly

FSU, Clemson and Miami are basically in a very similar situation as OU & Texas were before they left to the SEC
