I don’t think it hurts all that much if we have better conference leadership. I explained in the other thread there is very feasible ACC-Big12 media cooperation model (not merger) with Amazon or Netflix that would put payouts within 10 million of the P2 for the top 6-8 teams (and possibly exceeding the top P2 payout if more incentives tied to viewership and a deep playoff run). That’s not a big delta. Pretty much the same difference between the B1G and SEC tv contracts. Doesn’t require getting enough votes to break up the ACC conference, no buyouts, or any tricky complications. It’s obviously preferable and easier to jump to the P2, but if we are locked out it certainly doesn’t mean the end of Miami football. There is an even argument to be made that having a cakewalk schedule and consistently winning the ACC championship to get the auto bid every season is an easier path to national championships than trying to win the SEC or B1G or enough games against a much tougher schedule to win an at-large spot.

Yeah the money issue is one thing but conference affiliation is also important in recruiting. Big time game planning by the networks is also going to be more of a focus ... hope UM ends up announcing for the B10 before the season kicks off.

It’s important in recruiting? Wow. I guess someone should tell our five 5 star recruits that we aren’t a P2 team. It doesn’t matter as much as you think. It’s not 2008. Recruits want NIL, draft potential, and a chance to win championships. We give them that without having to be in the P2.

Geeeeez i thought we’d get UF back on the schedule this way. What a cluster****, and can’t believe the SEC and B1G had any objections at all when they controlled this thing the whole **** way.

If the sports stays at the current trajectory, then yes it will begin to matter more and more. Certain kids won’t want to play in the perceived minor leagues

Recruits already know what the ACC is. They don’t care. They know Miami is 4-0 against the SEC. What you describe only becomes problem if we go back to being bottom feeders. The difference is being a bottom feeder in the p2 still comes with a massive payout where a bottom feeder in the ACC is screwed. Easy solution- don’t become a bottom feeder in the ACC. Miami is poised to be the unchallenged dominant team in the ACC for at least the next 5-6 years, meaning a guaranteed playoff spot. Throw in a Heisman trophy or two (I think Mensah wins this year, could see Sears pulling a Travis Hunter a few years from now). We are going to be ok either way.
 
A few questions because I just skim through and too lazy to read the small print.

1) Lets say this passes, but we are actually the 19th B10 team they want... do we really have to go independent for 5years before joining the B10? and then once we join, is the B10 giving us full member payouts, or a fraction of the payouts like some other schools took??? If we're forced to go independent for 5years, what does that horrible payout look like for 5years?

2) If everything above is true, then would staying in the ACC as the flag ship team in FB and Bball and the incentive based payouts of the ACC, keep us in a relevant financial situation?
 
When Miami is relevant..being in the SEC or Big10 absolutely does not matter. Everything will come to us. Primetime slots, recruits, media coverage, etc. The problem is we were irrelevant for 20 years so alot of fans are brainwashed into thinking we need to be in the SEC or Big 10 to continue to compete and that is not true.

As the recruiting cycles go on...you are hearing less and less recruits say, "I want to be in the best conference going against the best talent week after week and that can only happen in the SEC"...That slogan is dying fast if its not dead already. And the SEC is desperately hanging on for dear life into that narrative before its dead for good.

Come on .... there are many kids that simply want to play in the "big leagues" every Saturday. Miami is killing it and he CFP performances REALLY did a job. Just think of how much more mojo Mario would have with UM in the P2.

You can say that ... but here we are coming off of a very relevant appearance in the national championship ... and our first three games are on Thursday and Friday nights.
 
2 of those teams....we could roll out our 2nd team starters and still beat them by 4 TDs. FAMU and Central Michigan? Come on. lol.

Last year..4 of our first 5 games were on primetime and 3 were ABC 8pm game of the week. (ND, FSU, UF). The proof is there.

The text of the bill hasn’t been released but from the summaries available

1. Yes, we have to await the five year independent period

1B. The question then becomes, if the B1G had the most power, why would they have that rule as part of it unless they wanted it in there?

1c: There is no specific pathway that has to happen when new members join, but leverage matters. In the case of USC and UCLA, the B1G sought them out as a counterweight to the SEC getting Texas and OU. But when it came to Oregon and Washington, who had far less leverage, they had to take a massive reduced distribution; as the same for Stanford/Cal/SMU for the next 7 or so years.

2. I mean idk the numbers in terms of a relevant financial situation. We have to see how the cap works and if the cap is even going to survive judicial scrutiny. But the payouts between the conferences are going to stack up.

2a. I doubt Purdue will become a football powerhouse anytime soon but they will be receiving 20 to 30Million more than us from their conference every year.

Makes no difference in today's game. As I said, this isn't 2008. NIL, NFL Draft potential, winning championships matter to 99.999% of recruits. If your argument is that .001% of recruits put conference prestige above NIL, NFL Draft Potential, and winning championships, then ok. We miss out on that one recruit every decade. I think we can survive that.
