Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

Regardless of whether you think this bill is good, the Calvinball aspect of College Sports is what ****es me off as well as everyone, where the rules seemingly change because of a random judge in Texas.

No sport or game can exist where the rules change year to year so radically. You think this bill is ****? I tend to think so too, but some kind of structure has to exist for this sport to not destroy itself.

Don't disagree with this, but anything the SEC is behind makes me suspect. It is only a bill because the SEC has seen the inherent built in advantages they had be leveled in a few short years - Miami, ND, TT weren't exactly competing in 2020.
 
First, does Congress not have better ways to make use of its time? Where does Congress get off placing caps on league membership? And why cap it?

The larger issue is the politicians are either dumb enough to buy a false narrative or else they’re party to the scam. Finally, if you haven’t already figured, ESPN benefits from this silly charade.

Ross Dellenger didn’t feel like they had the votes to pass it, strictly thru the Senate, on the Sunday podcast. I don’t believe they have the 60 voters for cloture, and the fact that a senator is proposing something like this apart from the bill adds to my belief:

In a separate effort by Congress to regulate college athletics, two Republicans — Rep. Tim Walberg of Michigan and Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio — introduced a bill Monday that would limit international athletes to no more than 20% of each varsity sports team.

“American colleges and universities should first and foremost provide opportunities for American students,” Walberg said. “America has built the strongest collegiate athletic system in the world, and we should make sure it continues to develop the next generation of American students and American Olympians.”

I doubt it goes up for a vote, doubtful it would pass the Senate, and more doubtful it would pass the house unscathed if it did pass the Senate. You don’t do this type of blitzkreig when the numbers are on your side.

I think the most dangerous time for its passage is the post-midterms holidays period in November and December; however after that, it’ll have even slimmer chances of passing in 2027; virtually zero and DOA indefinitely if not passed by the second week of January IMO.

Ted Cruz seems to be multitasking an attempt to become the frontrunner choice as the next SCOTUS nominee, on the precipice of launching his 2028 presidential campaign, and building the prerequisite staff required. So besides the Congressional composition change forthcoming, he will be pretty busy once the calendar turns the page.
 
What Saban and his buddies remaining want is just an environment where they control the rules at all times. Doesn't matter if its good or bad, as long as they control all. So much of our societies elites operate off that principle. Which is why a moufo could be rich as L and all they do is complain about people with little or less

Saban is a cuck who was given immunity his entire time at Alabama because Mark Emmert gave it to him. He had no problems with the way things were when they could pay players chump change under the table and keep other programs locked down because his daddy Emmert would go after them.

Once NIL came around Emmert retired and Saban right afterwards. Dabo is cut from the same cloth as a cuck who prospered under the same clock and is another loudmouth against NIL. These programs lived off of S. Florida talent and picking and choosing across the country.

Now that they can't use the McDonald bags, Dodge Chargers, and funnel money through the Church, it's a problem. Alabama is sitting at #42 in HS recruiting. Now that the SEC can't beat anyone else but themselves it's a problem. They want their games win or lose to count more than anyone else's and they'll rig it and spin it to do so.
 
They should pass 5 years for 4. I agree with that completely. Even with injuries I’m sorry just move on. You get 5 years to play 4. The capping of things is what I have an issue with and 1000% it’s only because Bama UGA lost all of the control over owning a roster of pros doing things through churches and **** to pay kids.
 
Bottom line. The bill is bad for players. They go out and take the risks to bring in all the TV money. You don’t suppress them. Suppress the school incomes and the “coaching” incomes. Pay the players. They earn it.

And leave the volleyball teams etc out of it. This is about football money and who gets what.

PS. One transfer only is egregious. You move one time and then are trapped? None of us want to be trapped by our employers.

One transfer with exceptions for more (coach change, graduation) is great.

People need to stop comparing college players to regular employees. Its not the same, and the comparison is disingenuous.
 
The transfer rules should be changed. The money part is what i disagree with. They dont talk about the advantage the BIG and SEC have financially over the other conferences. How they dissolved the PAC and decimated the Big 12 and have out sized TV money.

Because the B1G and SEC want massive competitive advantages and they believe the ACC/BigXII/PAC-Who Gives **** will NEVER catch up....

....errr...because everyone believes in what is best for the student-athletes and the integrity and traditional pageantry of college athletics...


Let's just go with the latter...
