I don’t respect the two non-voters

Only four republicans voted no: two from Florida, a former football HC, and Rand Paul. What hurts us here is that both Louisiana senators voted yes, and the two counterparts to the Kentucky and Alabama no’s voted yes.

Only positive spin is that it’s possible virtually all of the Florida house, bipartisan wise, will vote no on the bill. But definitely not a given & i don’t like those odds even if it does happen. . . . . So many senate Ds voting yes is a troublesome green light for the blue dog dems to be “responsible,” and vote w/ republicans.
 
But going into the practicalities of all this, it’s hilarious that people cite this legislation as an impetus to end lawsuits and court case chaos. There is a literal hard cap for all NIL athletes that is exceeded by a handful of football programs by themselves.

Like half a hundred programs spend more on NIL in totality than the amount set by the legislation. Is complying with the law lowering the payouts to all current student-athletes on the whims of a HC/AD in the middle / at the beginning of many major sporting seasons? Do they think this will be accepted by their thousands of student-athletes, and their combative counterparts, agents? What happens to HS recruits already signed into future NIL agreements with universities? David Gabriel-George supposed to be cool w/ one-tenth of what Tennessee previously offered?

I’ve never in my life seen any mass legislation to cap labor pay on a scale like this. I’m not sure if it has any precedent regardless of scale; across any American economic-domain.

Big donor money cares a lot about (insert SEC program name) football.

But I agree it’s incredible how trash like this gets prioritized the way it has been.

The asinine thing is the powers that be presume the Legal wars*** are over now, when they’re just getting started. And more drastic measures can be taken, from an uprising of upset student-athletes, swiftly depending upon the arbitrary nature of the NCAA wants to enact and enforce these various compensation restrictions.

This is a nightmare for Miami.

Caps on player compensation and no conference move.

Have to make the semi-Finals every single year to make the same money as Rutgers and Vandy.

That’s why I’m not sure it gets any Dem support in the house. Big labor is starting to come out heavy against it. Why **** off your support network if your dems coming into power. The house dems are 100x more liberal than the senate and they’re already lining up the investigations to go after Trump and his people. The last thing they’re gonna do is vote for something he wants in my opinion.
 
Remember a couple weeks ago when LSU was gonna kicked out of the SEC?

Time to zoom out and look at the big picture as opposed to the headline of the minute.

Schools -- including Miami -- aren't spending millions of dollars and countless hours to get locked into the ACC for life.

Anybody who thinks this bill will do such a thing is greatly underestimating how much the ACC's most valuable schools are determined to leave

Mos def, but if you recall, the b1g and sec held out for a long time before giving their support after many Trump threats. They know as much as anybody that their universities are spending so much more than the cap, even after the 22M retention bonus nonsense was added to gain their approval.

More than anything else, just like on a day to day, week to week basis, this is going to cause a massive stir if that fugazi totally-not-apart-of-the-NCAA College Sports Commission feels that they are compelled by law to restrict payments and count pockets.

This is from less than a week ago lmfao. “CSC says it processed an average of more than 200 deals per day, up from 94 over the same time period in its first year.”

they’re going to need dozens if not hundreds of arbiters to deal with the amount of contested rejections. Something like 95-97% of deals pass thru with no issue right now, and a ton of them are passed after schools follow directions given by the CSC. If it is given a new mandate by the passage of this legislation, all **** can break loose. By that i mean, work stoppages that lead to threats of cancelled games across the country amidst non-accepted compensation.
