Prediction

Yep. Recruiting going to heat up awful quickly....

I'll make a quick prediction: we'll get one of the top 3 DTs in the country. #1 is from NJ (Rashan Gary), #2 is from Florida (Shavar Manuel) and #3 is from NC (Dexter Lawrence). These are all areas that Butch knows well....

I'll go with Manuel....He did well in the Tampa area with big-time recruits the first go round (Quincy Hipps, Andrew Williams, Kenny Kelly)...

Shaq just solidified his commitment to us...that's how I know it's Butch

Schnelly, Jimmy, and Butch have all said leaving the University of Miami was their biggest regret, I'm willing to give one of'em a chance to make good.

IF he isn't the guy, and there is a good chance he's not, I have faith that he will at least be able to assemble a roster so good, a coachless team could win 80% of their games with four bowl game wins, and a National Title in the six successive years after he gets thrown in the garbage next to Coker, Shannon, and Golden. And in the meantime, I think we can rest easy knowing we don't have someone woefully under qualified to be the head coach. He's not without his warts, but at least we won't have to worry about gross negligence and incompetence and that, in my opinion, is enough to win the coastal and contend in the ACC annually.

I can't report it as fact because I haven't gotten it like that. But this is my prediction based on conversations.

I guess we're supposed to believe Butch Davis is a better coach and a better fit at his old school than John Robinson, Johnny Majors and Mike Riley with Petrino still pending along with being on par with Bill Snyder. He is supposed to be the exception to the rule in this case.

None of those guys had an interim stint at UNC where they dominated the ACC like Butch did.

How's UNC doing this year with their first team All-ACC QB Butch recruited for them?

Has any other coach won at UNC in just three years or did they have longer?

NONE have the recruiting base Butch will have.

John Robinson didn't have the access to talent that Butch might possibly have? In southern California?

Not even USC?

If this hire came after a comprehensive nation wide search, I'd be more excited. It does not feel that way.

How does that impact your excitement? One has nothing to do with the other, am I wrong?

I'd be more ready to accept the Butch hire if I knew we held an honest search consisting of candidates outside of the "MIAMI GUYZ!" bubble.

If we aggressively pursued coaches I feel are better qualified, and failed, it would make it easier to embrace this hire. But if we simply hired Butch without exploring other options, it strikes me as lazy and a disservice to this program.

Reasonable. But embrace it, brother. Compare where we are to where we were two months ago. Butch is obsessed with turning Miami around. He'll do it or die trying (literally). First glimmer of hope in a decade.

All of this.

Yes, if that's what's available. Position coaches don't make too much. Pay for solid coordinators and we'll be in fine shape. Plus he's already mentioned that he wants young, aggressive coaches. Those would also be more economical. I expect a couple more experience coaches blended in, though....

Staff Cap 6.4M Butch 1.9M + Incentives estimated to be worth an additional 640.000 & 260.000 for individual that occupies assistant HC, which leaves roughly 3.6M for coordinators/assistants.

Does 3.6M score high quality coordinator/position coaches?

Wait until we end up not landing the studs and winning only 7 or 8 next year. People will lose their minds when they realize the sport no longer supports a recruiter in chief.

Butch had 4 before a guy he hired got him fired.

Most of those players, and all the coaching is Fedora's. Why not just try to hire him then???
