PractiSe Tuesday, August 17

Lashlee is going to throw the kitchen sink at Bama. The question is whether we can execute in order to take advantage.
This. I dont want to hear any "Well, you know he couldnt show everything. Have to save some for ACC play when it really matters!". No! Show everything. Leave nothing in the clip! We will worry about what the ACC saw and didnt see at another time!

FWIW, i have a buddy/source who was at a recent "closed" practice, first time seeing the team in person and had this to say:

was really impressed with Rambo, said he was a smooth operator and really uses his hands well to catch the ball, impressed with smith at WR as well.

said Amari carter looks like a freakshow physically and has to be on the field in some capacity

jon ford is by far the largest dude on the defense. also ford has a really quick step and was often the first off the line on the snap, but he is not very smooth and does not have much of a finesse game.

and said X made a jaw dropping TD catch against Keyshawn Washington. said he likes Washington too, more of a good D better O situation.
It would be great if our 6th year guys played like 6th year guys against Bama and the rest of the season... Especially Ford.

Was able to convince Jose to come here. Which also helped recruit Andres to come here too. Also helped get Hedley to stay another year when he could easily have gone pro and come back later for his degree.

The decision to treat them like pros is still a coaching decision. Obviously that didn't work with Baxa or Feagles, for example.
Either way, it's not like they are just wandering around greentree with nothing to do. They still have practice/work out plans to follow, have to be told what to focus on, what workouts, things like ball placement/where to aim, etc.

Hedley and Jose may have been fine without Patke, but they could also have been made worse by the wrong coach. I think it is unfair to say he doesn't deserve some credit for fixing some of the issues we had previously with special teams.
I agree with you. I'm just saying the rest of our ST is suspect. Also, convincing Jose to come here was easy, this was his dream school and we overlooked him from the beginning. I'm definitely glad the kicking genes run strong in the Borregales family though. I'm not necessarily against Patke as a coach. I just think ST needs some improvement.

Regarding the "other half of the playbook," I'll add this. The biggest failure's we've seen from Canes teams since donna ****lala began destroying the program was the inability to hire AND RETAIN quality play callers. Lashlee, King and the entire offense are now in year two of working together in the same system. I have to believe there will be things they can do this year that might not have been prudent to attempt last year.

This would defy reality in today's game. Last year, 3 players led the nation with 2 PR TDs. About 30 had 1. Four player led the country in KR TDs, with 2 each. About 32 had 1. These numbers out off all the kicks in the entire season from all the teams.
This is an excellent point. Key part of special teams is having a kicker who consistently puts the ball and limits returns. The figure can be found somewhere, but fair assumption is more than 50% of kickoffs aren't returnable. If more than 50% are returned, then best recruit another kicker.

**** yeah. Been waiting for a mini series like this. Might need one you guys to record it and drop it in here since I don't have ACC Network lol.

Quite frankly I hate this stuff. It just always seems that when teams allow all access cameras to roam around during the preseason they end up under-performing during the season. I'd rather Manny have told them to pound sand and just keep writing negative stories about UM from the outside looking in.
