Spring PractiSe #5 **TUESDAY**

I don’t think Manny has a seniority issue at all. The only reason some older, less-talented players were on the field is because he didn’t recruit better replacements.

Shaq, Pinckney and McCloud played early. He benched Blades for Couch. The only real seniority issue I can think of was Patchan initially starting over Rousseau, and that was injury-related. Rousseau got the job quickly and Patchan bounced.

Manny said McCloud might play a Trent Harris role. That makes the most sense at this stage. His issue is going to setting the edge.
Spot on.

Is ivey that good in practice?
He has shut down games, too. His problem is that the bad moments are so frustrating. I also think it's a confidence issue. Ivey had ball skills in HS but they haven't translated.

One of the reason the coaches (including TRob) like Ivey so much is that he is a giant corner. There are tools there. Whether he can actually become an above-average CB remains to be seen. Time is running out.

You
Pencil in McCloud as a starter at SDE.

DeAndre will be playing the rotational role that Trent Harris/Trevon Hill played. And Harvey will be the guy at WDE.

Also expect a big dose of BJ Jennings & DJ Ivey all year too lol The Safeties will remain Bolden, Hall & Carter, the young Safeties will only play 3rd team & mop up duty.

Seniority always wins with Manny.
Lmao boy you been flying them drones around pratiSE huh😂

I believe AR82 also stated that Ivey was the hardest CB to go against.... FWIW

Were you asleep for offense last season? Can't think of any other HC in CFB that would have trotted Pope and Wiggins out there 80-90% of the games. The OL featured mostly upperclassmen that were mediocre. Not saying replacements were better but not saying they were worse either because we rarely go a chance to see.

First question to scaife: what part of Spain did you study in to learn that O-Lay technique.

First question to McCloud: will you need a different true freshman this year to teach you where to line up again
If you have no hope, not even a wish for the players to improve why bother calling yourself a fan?

The bolded part is the key in terms of the OL.

As for the young WRs, they had a COVID outbreak the same week Likens blew up the depth chart. Pope and Wiggins started playing better and had the jobs secure when the young guys finally came back. Of course, they cratered and now it's wide open again.

I'll focus on the defense because that's where he's been most involved:

Rousseau played over Patchan, which caused Patchan to transfer. The only reason Rousseau didn't start the first game is because he had battled an injury in camp.

Hall played much more than Knowles. He was our second-leading tackler. Frierson does not play safety.

Bethel played because he was better at that time. Note that our rushing defense dropped from 21st to 75th when he left. We could've used his discipline against UNC.

Brooks has played much more than Ragone. Unfortunately, he has battled injuries and has not performed particularly well. Huff is struggling to pick up the defense, which is why he got passed so quickly by Flagg.

This is a bad recruiting issue, not a seniority issue.

See above. Flagg also played a lot despite no offseason and catching COVID in the middle of the season.

Blades and Ivey weren't Day 1 starter talents. Note that Couch beat out the more-senior Blades last year.

JHH was starting (as a RS-freshman) when he got hurt, despite still being raw.

Hall plays more snaps than any safety. Harrell just got moved to CB because he wasn't playing that well. Balom is a three-star true freshman in a COVID year who still got meaningful snaps.

IMO, most of the frustration comes from bad recruiting, not seniority. We need to keep recruiting better young players. A full offseason should also help.

Touché D$ - color me wrong then

With all this being said, you're right, recruiting, especially on the back 7 has been a problem (Manny kept Rumph around too long). Hopefully with TRob, DVD, and Aristide, most of it can be fixed.

But now I'm also starting to worry about Manny and his defensive staff's ability to identify HS to College talent and player development capabilities. Because no matter who is recruiting them, Manny is still at the top as far as targeting who we go after in recruiting.

And there's been way too many highly touted guys or highly regarded signees by this staff that just haven't amounted to their potential.

- Gurvan Hall
- Jon Garvin (IMO he had 1-3rd rd Talent)
- Blades & Ivey
- Obviously Jennings/Joyner/McCloud at LB
- Huff & Brooks

Need to see something soon out of development

Good to know, and let's hope so.

Really want to see a top 3 of Harley - Rambo - K. Smith and a top 5 adding two of Restrepo/Redding/Brinson/B.Smith

DT and safety are the only positions we should be better at imo. I don’t think we have the talent at linebacker or corner that would worry anybody and it was constantly exposed and taken advantage of last season.
I also don’t see anyone even close to Roche JP or Rousseau.
We talk a lot about Pope and Wiggins and how it’s year 4 now and we haven’t seen anything and we shouldn't expect anything different. Well the same thing should be said about some dudes in defense as well.
Ivey isn’t gonna be anywhere near all acc just cause Trob is here.
Jennings ain’t gonna turn into a sideline to sideline LB that can close in on a running back before he hits the turn.

Trust me. I hope I’m dead *** wrong. But I just don’t see it.

This is lost in the Ivey discussion. When he has bad games, they are really bad games and he's embarrassed a lot.

Then he'll go a month where...you barely notice he's playing (means he's doing his job - albeit unspectacularly). I'm still not the biggest fan, but new CB coach might bring something out of him.

Aren’t Lashlee and Likens making the wide receiver decisions?

Or is Manny‘s alleged seniority fetish making him start Pope and Wiggins over the others?

So Manny, allegedly a defensive expert but certainly no offensive expert, is telling the two grown *** men, Lashlee and Likens, to start wide receivers that they don’t want to start.

I mean if we’re going to stick with this seniority fetish, let’s at least be realistic, and put the blame where it belongs on offense.
