Potential Two Deep lets discuss

I don’t think CB is as big an issue as y’all think.. as long as 4 of 4 can stay healthy of Blades, Ivey, Couch, Williams then we are good. Our 4th and 5th DB’s on the field last year were Safeties. Our Safeties will be even better this year and will help mask that CB depth..
Lol. Yeah. Because we totally have control over who gets injured.

This is a stupid take. At this point the staff knows players are jumping for the NFL regardless of their draft grade. They need to project better.

Last year the striker was 1 on 1 with the slot way more than the year before. Idk if that’s baker or just how the position is going to go now. But if it is, i don’t think carter can play it. Leaving Amari by himself against a slot reciever is a recipe for disaster.

This thread is not about coaching, I repeat not about coaching

There is some serious talent in the potential two deep. This team has a long way to go to become a championship level team, but in my opinion there is enough talent on this team to make it to the ACC championship.

Do you think this is enough talent to make it to the ACC Championship game and actually be competitive?
General comments on the list:
  • Good, overall list!
  • Miller will overtake Ford as a starter by season's end.
  • Jalen Rivers, if he's who the coaches think he is, will become a starter by the end of the season.
  • Our 1st team D is potentially, the best D in the country. Cue all the "realists" and haters. Obviously, they have to prove it on the field, but I don't see a single starter who isn't a potential pro.
  • Nesta will have this offseason to make his move. It's hard to believe that he'll have as good of a pass rush to distract from his interior activities, like he will this year. He needs to spend extra time training, and do whatever he can to get to that next level, that we all thought he would get to when he came to us as a top 10 DT in the country.
  • Similar to Nesta, despite all that's transpired, Donaldson could still have a season that propels him into the 1st 3-4 rounds of the draft, if he understands that as of today, the clock is ticking and if he wants to take care of his family financially, he will have to devote himself, heart, soul and body, to becoming the player we always hoped he would be.
  • This is the year we will see if Stroud's technique building, etc., is worthy of a team with this much talent. With these studs, it should be that hard to train straight killers on the DL.
  • This will be a year where a lot of crow is eaten and people are actually happy we kept Rumph around.
  • Bolden is ELITE! We just started seeing it when he got injured. If he can remain uninjured this season, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he played himself into AA status and 1st 2 rounds of the draft. With our pass rush, our secondary, should be taking the big fellas out for buffets every weekend as a thank you.

What do we know about Zion's weight gain and strength? Was last year's disaster more about lack of size/strength or more about inexperience and lack-of-technique? I thought more the latter but gaining all that weight so quickly had to make starting in August a real challenge. Would be awesome if he developed into an ACC starting tackle. But **** he was so bad last year, just hard to see it changing that much in one off-season. In 2-3 years, sure. He is an athlete with quick feet.

1) Wiggins, Pope & Payton will be IMO.

2) Agreed OL depth is atrocious, our 2-deep is terrible, we have 3 guys in Herbert, Hillery & Dykstra who couldn't block a knat with a screen door & if anybody gets hurt at OL we're royally screwed. Desperately need a GT OT.

3) Agreed again. I've been screaming about CB depth all year, that's why I laugh at anybody that thinks "we're just fine bro!" at CB having only 4 CB's for Spring & having to rely on 2 TF's for depth both of whom will Summer/Fall adds & one of them has to literally be taught how to play CB at the college level... Oh and our starting CB2 opposite of Blades has now recovery speed whatsoever, gets beat routinely & has poor technique. Would be stupid to not add a GT CB after Spring. Hopefully Meiko Dotson or Christian Holmes 🙏🏾.

4) I think Harley could do well as a PR & I'm hoping Knighton gets a shot as a return man, he could be potentially really good at it if they trust he'll never drop the ball.
Harley not dropping the ball?
Press (X) for doubt

Tae Williams ain't no CB bruh, especially at Nickel.

He's a FS 1,000% all the way, putting him at CB would be neutralizing his ability, doesn't have the fluidity & change of direction to be a NCB, has very good straight line speed & raw natural athleticism to be a Rover Safety.
I disagree on Williams. The clips i've seen, i think he can get it done at the Nickel spot. At worst we can let him play back and have Bubba play nickel some.

Haven't read through but has it been stated whether Amari Carter would move to LB or not? I want him as a WLB during the spring.

Finally someone with a logical statement. Either Blake Baker is utilizing the striker position wrong, or teams are taking advantage of our strike's weaknesses by making him cover their slot Wr. Carter needs to stay where he is or move to LB.

Lol. Yeah. Because we totally have control over who gets injured.

my bad typo. I meant 3 of 4

This Carter to striker thing has me at a loss. Have you all seen what we ask the Striker to do? Does that seem like a good place for a guy who has shown struggle in space or man coverage?
So let’s play him @ MLB? Or DE?

I mentioned on another thread and even before last season I think he's an effective sub-package blitzer, can play in certain coverages as a Safety, or maybe gets a shot at WLB. But, the Striker position is a seeming odd fit for what he's shown us so far.

The position is sometimes like asking an oversized player to play Nickel corner in traditional sets. Leave Frierson there. Maybe find another guy with some size and good feet - not exactly easy. I rather they just play Couch more, get Williams' athleticism on the field, or move Blades inside over the slot and put Christian Williams outside on certain down and distance situations.

Carter should be moved to WLB. Package him up. He’s atrocious in space, but he’s a good blitzer. BOLDEN needs to play FS. Our defense is Completely different with him on the field. We need him healthy!

Carter would get cooked playing striker, I don't know why some think that's a good idea. And Miller will end up taking more snaps than Ford this year, even if he doesn't start.
