Post Game Recap: TAMU

I listened to Jumbo Fister's post game interview, hoping to hear something along the lines of "they beat us up physically...", similar to what Ohio's coach said. He didn't say it directly, but it was obvious he felt that way.

His excuses were, "we tackled poorly... had too many missed tackles where we had our arms around them... they brought more guys than we could block"...etc.

It's great to finally be hearing those things said again by opposing coaches.

The talent is there for sure, QB was decent enough, I think the 5 star back looks legit, I think they overrated their WR, they are good but they only cooked New Mexico with some of the worst DB play I have seen, disrespecting wr squads like washington and such saying they are one of best in nation. Their Dline is full of monstars (but scheme might hold them back and I dont see an edge demon), edgerrin cooper is a dude, their db squad is a weakness after having #1 pass defense, I think it was under talked about point they lost a couple to NFL and the backups who should of inherited the roles transferred to LSU, Duke, Houston. They starting Boston College nickle on outside and UNC corner seem like a bust.. Jimbo got some splainin to do lol

I don’t disagree. Every team outside of maybe Georgia has some weakness you can expose. Even Bama now has some issues at qb

It’s a quality win because we always lose these games & TAMU has a talented roster by rankings standpoint.

But they’re not a good team; They went 5-7 last year & during the Jumbo era have averaged 5 losses a season.

They’re not Bama or UGA; they’re not even LSU or Ole Miss tbh. They’re perceived as a “good” team because of the SEC narratives, but in reality they haven’t shown that they’re good.

Two things can be true at the same time; TAMU is & has been overrated & it was still a good win for us because we normally lose these OOC games. My comments about TAMU doesn’t diminish anything, it just puts in perspective where both teams are as a program.

It doesn’t matter either way, as long as we win our games & handle our business we’ll be properly placed.

TAMU doesn’t need to be good in order to feel good about beating them. They were a sh*tty team last year & we still lost.

So not a top 25 team by your estimation? Maybe not now lol.

I don’t think they are a 5-7 team this year and neither are we. I think we probably have taken a bigger step forward than they have, but I would be surprised if they aren’t ranked by end of season.

I would say Corey Flagg is currently outperforming the wash st guy brought in to replace him.. at some point it isn’t a coincidence

Board would’ve had a ton of posts up trashing Flagg if he was out there in some of the plays where 51 was getting caught out in coverage

Top 25 based on what exactly?

They’ve played 2 games, New Mexico & Miami; when have they shown they’re a top 25 team?

That’s what I mean about optics & narratives that surround them simply based on the conference they play in.

I picked Miami to go 9-3 this year & TAMU wasn’t one of the losses, in fact I predicted us to beat them last year too. So you shouldn’t interpret anything I say about TAMU as somehow a commentary about Miami or it’s standing, it’s simply how I’ve felt about TAMU based on how they’ve played.

My absolute favorite thing about this game is that we didn’t just try to sit in the lead and milk the clock. The running game was going nowhere and we were getting huge plays through the air so Dawson kept dialing up the passing game. DO WHAT WORKS. Last week it was pounding the run game and short pass game. This week it was unleashing the downfield passing game. Don’t be handcuffed to a certain style and be confident/comfortable enough to keep attacking instead of playing it conservative.
Exactly right.
Ohio dropped their CB’s 10 yards off which gave us the short passing game and it helps in the running game because now the receiver can block 5-10 down field instead of blocking a guy at the LOS.
TAMU played up on us and our WR’s beat them over the top. With TVD whatever a team gives he will take and can win.

I expect to see a lot more teams playing off coverage after what we did on Saturday. Really every team other than FSU, and maybe Clemson will need to play off. That should help in the running game because if the edge is set by Cam, and the WR can sustain his block, we are looking at long runs.

Just keep taking what they give because with TVD, we can win in multiple ways.

Well at least Jimbo can’t complain about our NIL deals like the Ohio coach.

After last year cherish every win.

Right now any team ranking is based off potential. I guess we should have a better idea by mid season. They were like 23 or something so it’s not like the media were thinking they were juggernauts but not quite in the “others receiving votes” category either.
