My understanding of the House settlement is that any buyouts of RevShare contracts are supposed to count towards the yearly cap. So if we gave Mensah the Ty Simpson offer ($6.5m) + $4m to Duke it's supposed to count for ~$10m against the 2026 cap (which I believe is $21.3m), which is a lot for a single player.

IMO, the cap is a fantasy right now, since there isn't a valid participation agreement signed by all the P4 schools. The CSC keeps releasing memos about "enforcement" but I don't see how they plan to police cap violations when there isn't a valid agreement empowering them to do so.

Schools are likely violating the cap either directly or indirectly by promising 3rd party NIL deals before they are cleared by NIL GO. We should too until the participation agreement is signed by everyone. I doubt this system lasts past the first time the CSC decides to penalize a school for violations and the school laughs at them.
Texas is reportedly over 40mil this year. I don’t see any complaining about them.

Pete summed up the whole “tampering” thing on the podcast and he’s 100% right. Players have agents. It’s the agent’s job to get his client the best possible contract. Whether it’s money or environment or best chance to improve draft stock. These agents are constantly shopping their clients when they’re not in the portal. Miami doesn’t have to approach Darrian Mensah. His agent likely approached the Hurricanes a while ago.

Supposedly the money isn’t more than what Duke was paying him.
Also missing in this tampering talk is Mensah wasn’t back on campus even though classes started. He’s been working out in Tampa.

So the idea Duke is shocked makes no sense especially since they stole him from Tulane.

Agreed. It’s why Mensah threw for 4,000 yards, 34 TDs, and 6 INTs while Lagway threw for 2,000 yards, 16 TDs, and 14 INTs despite Lagway having a canon.

Not that that it matters, but it is crazy 247 assigned Mensah the same rating as Lagway. Total joke. On3 did a much better job.
Qb brain processing speed > arm strength

To me it seems like we have one of the best NIL operations in the country

Not just from a money standpoint but from a technical and legal standpoint as well

Lots of programs have money and lots of them have issues with leaks and contracts and making mistakes

Seems like a pretty tight ship here

The rules on who can communicate with whom at what point are extremely vague.

The reality is, if a players university does not submit his data to the portal, he can simply unenroll and enroll at his preferred destination. Either way, it's going to happen, there is no point in trying to force something through.

You want to be the guy to make Mario mad? Me either. The look alone could take me out.

That WR they lost to VT is a very good player. A big loss for Duke. The RB who bolted to FSU, what is he thinking?
Which running back? I see a Duke safety going to FSU but Duke’s RB is returning to Duke. Duke got hit pretty hard at safety. They return one starter but Jones (S who to FSU) was a big contributor as a true freshman and just got straight up poached.

He’s following John Garrett. Garrett was director of offensive scouting for FSU in 2022 & 2023; left to become Duke’s GM for the past two years, and now is back at FSU as the Deputy Athletics Director/General Manager of Player Personnel which is a larger role he will keep if they have to fire Prison Mike next year.

Duke had an all-acc safety, Moore, who sat out 2025 with an injury; and he left to go to OSU. So they are stressing 😂
