According to Patagna, the pros are that Mensah is an elite processor, distributes the ball extremely well, plays with great anticipation and throws receivers open, and has strong pocket awareness.

The main knock is that he doesn’t have the strongest arm.
This is all we should care about..And his arm is good enough at the college level, and anticipation ties into arm strength

Once you process at a high level all of your attributes at qb rise, your accuracy rises because you can judge defenders movement and distance better so you can anticipate where the wr will be and therefore you can be on target more

Its why phillip rivers can get off his office chair after 5 years and still look better than guys who have been playing for the last 5 years.

My understanding of the House settlement is that any buyouts of RevShare contracts are supposed to count towards the yearly cap. So if we gave Mensah the Ty Simpson offer ($6.5m) + $4m to Duke it's supposed to count for ~$10m against the 2026 cap (which I believe is $21.3m), which is a lot for a single player.

IMO, the cap is a fantasy right now, since there isn't a valid participation agreement signed by all the P4 schools. The CSC keeps releasing memos about "enforcement" but I don't see how they plan to police cap violations when there isn't a valid agreement empowering them to do so.

Schools are likely violating the cap either directly or indirectly by promising 3rd party NIL deals before they are cleared by NIL GO. We should too until the participation agreement is signed by everyone. I doubt this system lasts past the first time the CSC decides to penalize a school for violations and the school laughs at them.

Colleges and universities that literally control the NCAA: “We want to re-exert our control over players by not collectively bargaining with them and trying to hold them to contracts that carry no weight because we refuse classify them as employees”

The courts: “You literally can’t do that, it’s illegal, so please quit doing illegal things and getting sued over it and wasting our time constantly”

The colleges and universities: “BUT I WANNNA!!!!!!! 😭😩😢🥺😡

I hope getting Mensah will allow us to open up our vertical game a bit more than we have this year. Watching his highlights and then imagining him back there with our OL and our backs is pretty **** exciting for what could be. But until then, how about we just go win ourselves Natty #6?

I don’t think so.

5 of these guys are ahead of him:
Ward
Walsh
Dorsey
Gino
Bernie
Vinnie
Kelly
I respect this reply. But the a couple of things:

1) The path Beck had to guide us down was far more challenging than some of those guys listed.

2) Context matters. Beck leading us back to the top of the mountain after 20+ years of irrelevance elevates his name into the discussion with the greats.

Agreed. It’s why Mensah threw for 4,000 yards, 34 TDs, and 6 INTs while Lagway threw for 2,000 yards, 16 TDs, and 14 INTs despite Lagway having a canon.

Not that that it matters, but it is crazy 247 assigned Mensah the same rating as Lagway. Total joke. On3 did a much better job.

I have news for you guys. You can never get rid of “tampering.”

Players are tampered with in professional leagues all the time. You can’t completely eliminate it.

DWade tempered to get LeBron.

You reduce it by collectively bargaining with the players but the schools don’t want to go there.
Exactly this its the same reason in NFL free agency you got big contracts being signed 2 minutes after the window opens. These teams will always find a way around the rules anyways.

If Beck wins a title I believe he should be considered the 3rd best qb ever at Miami. Gino, Dorsey, Beck would be my order; based on statistics, championships and awards. Heavy weight on the title.

I was told they were working to get something done yesterday, but my assumption was Fifita or Bailey.

Mensah is legit. I'd definitely take Mensah over Leavitt (for several reasons), and though I see the upside with Sorsby, Mensah is a more polished QB ready to play now.

My Bailey love runs deep, but even I can admit Mensa a more sure thing for next year.

Raiola wasn't a take for Miami (at least before the pressure of the deadline came about). Dawson isn't in love with Bailey like I am.

Mario is a gambler. Three years in a row coming through in the end. Might be back here next year again, but I'll have faith again.
I have many, many thoughts on Mensah as a prospect and a fit for what we have done over the last few seasons with Dawson. I’ll wait for your detailed breakdown. I’m excited.

Pete summed up the whole “tampering” thing on the podcast and he’s 100% right. Players have agents. It’s the agent’s job to get his client the best possible contract. Whether it’s money or environment or best chance to improve draft stock. These agents are constantly shopping their clients when they’re not in the portal. Miami doesn’t have to approach Darrian Mensah. His agent likely approached the Hurricanes a while ago.

Supposedly the money isn’t more than what Duke was paying him.

Point one is for certain - this was a tough post season schedule - brutal. I can’t entirely agree though, particularly with 2. Cam Ward broke that 20 years of irrelevance thing. Only the worst defense in our history prevented this from happening last year. Ward was the number one pick and the greatest qb i ever saw at UM in that season. I agree that Beck deserves accolades but I don’t see him as top 5 in program history, win or not.

With 4 minutes to go I want the ball in Steve Walsh's hands, period. Then Bernie's. Carson is most certainly in the discussion. Win on Monday night and he hits the Mount Rushmore of clutch UM QBs. For me, that is the true measure of greatness.

Great response, especially #1!

#2– I’d just say that Cam Ward set the stage for his ascension up with his record breaking season here. Beck doesn’t become a Hurricane without Ward’s stellar season here and our #1 offense. Ward helped to sell Beck on Dawson. Cam gets an assist on the play.
