Portal Preview from Cooper Petagna

There’s a 6’8 WR for Jacksonville State with 2 years left named Deondre Johnson who I’d definitely try to get! Use the Poyser connect! Red zone threat at minimum

Mario is fighting the fact that he’s actually more of a Steve Spurrier Fun and Gun coach in his soul than a Bro Ball

He’s horribly undisciplined and if you can’t simply snap the ball without ****ting yourself you can’t be Michigan

Just embrace the lack of discipline and throw haymakers for 60 minutes

As you said…stop fighting it Mario. Embrace the dark side.

Mario gonna start coming to work in flip flops and Hawaiian shirts. No more loafers.

I will never not be upset that Miami didn't get on Bailey until late. Proven winner playing for an advanced high school football program. Instead we chose a project from an option offense. Can Judd play tight end yet?

Does the NC State tight end Joly still have a year of eligibility? He is pretty much exactly what I hoped Lofton would be only bigger.

Also, random thought, but I really like the Dorian Thomas kid at tight end from New Mexico/Arizona. Super athlete with ball skills. I just hope he can block the A gap successfully.

Judd the studd must be incredible. Cant wait to see him next year.

That's solely dependent on what Mario wants to do.

All I was saying is, he needs to make a decision, stop having one foot in & one foot out.

Either be all-in with smashmouth Bro Ball, or move himself completely out the way. But this hiring Air Raid guys & then forcing them to implement a run system they don't like or believe in is not gonna work.
We need to land an elite Qb who can make **** happen. Period. Everything else is secondary. Landing a TOP WR in portal like Coleman is probably 2nd/3rd most important right there with Bringing in another top Nickel.

FSU will pay whatever money they got for not buying out norvel to that kid and some QB most schools recruited to play slot wr and try to recreate 2023 once again

We need a dynamic TE!! Also need a Dual threat Alpha at QB!
What about that note dame back up? He a dual threat type? It’s kind of obvious losing out to Carr isn’t exactly a bad sign. That kids proving to be pretty darn good.

I definitely seem to going after that PSU TE. If that kid can block, he will get a lot of love from Mario! lol I’ll be honest, Lofton completely whiffs half his blocks.

Mario is dreaming about the bunch box offense he can run with Sellers and Baugh.

Mario’s ideal offense has a lower ceiling than most. But that combo would get it to its ceiling. Probably similar to the 2021 Oregon offense with Anthony Brown.

Mario’s ideal offense is the historically good offense he just had last year. It was physical, efficient and explosive.

Getting back there is another story. But that’s what he wants and he’s done it before.

That’s not his ideal offense.
You’d have to ignore his entire history of coaching outside of that year.

And even last year’s offense didn’t have a ton of down field bombs. The ball traveling a ton of yards in the air type passes.

The lack of explosiveness that still comes with a Mario offense was still there last year. Ward just covered it up more.

But yes, Mario’s dream offense is a physical offense that has a high down to down success rate. Lower explosive play rate.

Sellers and Baugh gets him that

OCs:
2018-2019: Arroyo
2020-2021: Moorehead
2022: Gattis
2023-present: Dawson

QBs:
2018-2019: Herbert (1st Rd pick)
2020: Shough (1st Rd pick via UL)
2021: Brown (UDFA)
2022-23: Van Dyke (Transferred)
2024: Ward (1st Rd pick)
2025: Beck (TBD)

Mario whether at Oregon or here have stated numerous times he wants a ball controlled, balance, physical at the attack offense. 2024 was an anomaly b/c we had a QB w a golden arm; in fact, I can’t recall if it was 2022 or 2023 (& I’m leaning 2023) that TVD was hot in a win & Mario was critical on passing the ball too much when interviewed after the game.

There’s nothing on Mario’s resumé or history that shows “he’s done it before” or that’s his preferred offense. There’s way too much data that shows a Mario Cristobal coached team is going to be in the 40-45th range in Total O & 40-45th range Passing O. What he says vs. what he does r two totally different things & I’ve known this pre-Miami.

Common sense.

You guys are talking about his "dream offense" or his "ideal offense." The one he just had was #1 in everything by a mile. They were TuFF and FyZical and they also threw better than everyone. You don't think he wants that again?

By the way, let's revisit the data you posted:

-2018 (Total O: 41st - Passing O: 49th / Rushing O: 54th)
-2019 (Total O: 40th - Passing O: 41st / Rushing O: 51st)

-2023 (Total O: 31st - Passing O: 41st / Rushing O: 44th)
-2024 (Total O: 1st - Passing O: 3rd / Rushing O: 31st)
-2025 (Total O: 48th - Passing O: 33rd / Rushing O: 76th)

Based on your own post, Mario's teams finished better in passing than rushing every year but one (when they had a running QB). Stats like raw yardage aren't very meaningful anyway, but you seem to value them and they contradict what you're saying.

I don't think Mario is any kind of offensive guru, and it's more than fair to question his results. But in terms of "ideal offense" and "dream offense" and whatever other terms people are using, Mario would sign up for last year's offense every year if he could.
