That’s straight slurper talk. Pope didn’t high point the ball or anything special other than actually catch the football. He was wide open on the touchdown. The deep ball on the sideline fell right into his arms. He didn’t come back or jump for it to ensure it was a catch. The CB played the ball like it was Ivey in coverage. Anyone who watched Clemson or dare I say UF last night saw some big time catches. It pains me to say that but take off the rose colored glasses and it is plain as day. Grimes and Pitts made some spectacular catches on 50/50 balls. The dude Powell for Clemson made plays last night I haven’t seen a UM WR make since AR. Pope is a Junior and has NOT ONE broken tackle or even made someone miss with the ball in his hands. He goes down if someone flicks him.
Harley on the other hand has really stepped up the past couple games. He’s catching the ball, getting open, and finally making dudes miss and keeping his balance. Harley is playing like he wants it.
Now, the real story here is King. He dropped dimes all night long. He played like the guy we all hoped we were getting. NC State dared us to throw deep because King hasn’t made good deep throws yet. Well King looked better this past game than the two games I’ve watched Kyler Murray play this season.
The point is Pope is not a good WR. He made most of the plays you expect WRs to make. A perfectly thrown ball and the WR beating single coverage sometimes. He still dropped an easy catch for a first down. He had a chance for another 50/50 ball and couldn’t make the play. So even in his best game. Where he finally gets his first touchdown as a JUNIOR. He was still mediocre.
