Someone like Charles Perry will have to move to TE.

Has anyone noticed we have 5 walk on kickers? Wth
 
Butch never had TE issues. Of course he also knew that JUCOs could be used to supplant a roster, such as with Mercer and Shockey.

The current staff (including Hartley) doesn't seem to understand this.

In years 1 and 2 we clearly needed JUCO help. We've never even recruited a JUCO TE.

I know that you and many of the other little children on this board are in love with Hartley - who looks like he may have played football during elementary school, perhaps - much like Diaz and Banda.

He's clearly the reason why we've been deficient in TEs since he's been here.

He is a solid recruiter. But his job isn't recruiting coordinator - he's actually here to develop and coach, too.

And manage the roster for his position groups.

And getting high quality recruits only works as long as you win games.

If we begin to falter, all of these future top TE recruits won't be coming. It's incredibly simple to understand.

STs have been a mess since he's been here. And he's the coach of that group.

The only quality coaches we have are Dugans and Brown.

The rest are TBD.

he just brought in the #1 TE class in the country, and there's a good chance he lands Zipperer in 2019. And we have the #1 2020 TE.

We didn't need a JUCO TE in years 1 and 2:

Year 1: We had Herndon and Njoku (after year 1 he got drafted in the 1st round)
Year 2: You could make the argument that we needed a JUCO TE because we only really had Herndon
Year 3: We had Irvin (who was lost during Fall camp to injury), Jordan, Mallory and Polendey.

In the end, injuries happen to every team and right now we got bit bad on the injury bug. Most CFB rosters only carry 4 TEs on average, so we didn't really need a JUCO to start the season.

We started with 4 scholarship TE's, I doubt many teams have more than that ready to play at least. We also had Haskins in the same class as Irvin and he left town. It sucks that injuries have hit the TE position but I'm not sure we could've been much more prepared.

Only thing I agree with you on is STs. Hartley's a good TE's coach, but ST has been lacking. We should've made Hartley recruiting coordinator and got a dedicated ST coach instead of a LB coach that only coaches the strikers. That was a wasted spot on the staff.
 
I think he's fine. Andre Ware didn't mention him on faking, so yeah, I think he's fine.

JUST IN: Sophomore tight end Brian Polendey has sustained a right knee injury and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
 
Right knee injury per UM, will have surgery and done for the season. TE is getting VERY thin.
