Two four star rated cornerbacks that we desperately need, plus a third CB who is 3 stars. We need talent and bodies in that position because of past recruiting failures. We need those three to stick and to get a transfer portal kid (or two).
What I am trying to say is that in the situation Miami is in, we're in a positive scenario. There's still hope in the program thanks to TVD. Miami could not only go 8-4, but could be in the ACC championship game as we would be simply out-scoring the opposition.
If Manny had been fired in October, that would have meant that TVD and the freshmen in offense couldn't get over the hump. There would have been a sense of desperation and collapse with the program, and it would have given other programs nearly two months to peel off those recruits. It would have given two months for SEC schools to recruit Leonard Taylor and James Williams and all of the other talented freshmen, without the prospect of hope, of winning out, of the current regime staying. Strategically, this is the worst possible outcome as it could set Miami back to a point lower than it has been since the 1970s.
As I said, if Miami still wants to part ways from CMD they can after the regular season is over. But they can do so without a two month long transition where the core of the Hurricane program is eviscerated. It doesn't matter if you get Mario or 1995 Butch Davis or 1985 Jimmy Johnson - if those coaches come in after ENSD with 50 players having graduated or transferred out - if Taylor, Williams (both of them), Kinchens, Brinson, George, TVD, Garcia, Arroyo, Knighton, Franklin, Smith, Brown and Seymore have all transferred...that coach is not winning the ACC before year 4.
