I will say that I just have a hard time believing that after spending the money to buy out Golden mid-season, and after hearing that we have $3+ million to spend, and after the negative experiences we've had in hiring the last 3 coaches, and having Mario leave our staff to take one at Alabama after 6 weeks (which I think should be a significant negative factor for him), and the fact that the guy literally has the same type of record that Golden had, but without much of the buzz as an "up and comer" in the coaching ranks, that we will seriously consider him.
If the idea is that we feel we need to kick the tires on a bunch of candidates and we're going to include him, or we are thinking 5 years down the road when maybe he could be worth interviewing and we feel like we don't want to burn any bridges (which is stupid, but whatever), then no big deal. However, despite the past incompetence of our AD and BOT, I honestly can't see how Mario is a serious candidate. Even with many sports writers noting the negative aspects of the Miami job, most have acknowledged that it is at worst the 3rd best job currently open, it seems absurd that we would hire a candidate that wouldn't be 15th on most coaching lists, would be picked in front of guys like Herman, Fuente, Smart, Frost, Morris...and BUTCH. If that is where we end up, then I'd say our admin simply has no interest in being competitive nationally.
