Players and plays I'm most excited to watch against Bethune

Not a popular choice but I want to see what the offense looks like and how TVD executes the offense. Does he look comfortable? Does he show command and complete control as if he has been playing in this scheme for years? Is he able to exploit the entire field and use the RBs, TEs and WRs in the passing game? Is he robotic in going thru progressions or running the RPO, etc.

It'll be a scrimmage. Let's be clear. The objective is hopefully crisp development and health. What most players accomplish against Bethune may not necessarily translate to how they can or should win against TAMU or ACC-level talent. That said, still lots of stuff to look for while I sit there watching till the clock ticks to 00:00.

QB TVD - No, I won't really be watching for big stats or any proof that we'll have a downfield attack. If you don't already know #9, this "what to look for during a scrimmage against Bethune" might not be the content you want. That said, I'll specifically watch for what they have TVD practice. He'll likely have more crossing routes and inside-the-hashes throws to make this season. I look forward to watching his improvement against zone defenses, anticipating his throws more, and touch passes. I expect we'll get some easy money tomorrow to the RBs and down the seams to the TEs, but looking for the crossing throws he'll need for later in the season. Later this season, I want to see him move his feet and "spark the game" quicker by running, but I definitely hope that is NOT against Bethune.

RB Thad Franklin - Have a decent idea of what we'll see from the other two backs. Want to see how #22 looks in a gap scheme, possibly running downhill, and if they try him in the pass game. I think he may be one of those players who plays in games better than what he practices.

RB Walkons and/or recent transfer - I just want to see them eat up 10-15 carries (combined) at the end of the game and help us preserve our health.

TE Elijah Arroyo - I think #80 is our dude. If we're going to surprise folks with any aspect of our passing game, I think Arroyo has a significant role in that product. Do we immediately put on film his ability to stretch a defense and win some matchups against Safeties?

OL Rivers - To have the OL we need against the better teams, I believe he needs to be at his best. Watching #64 push around Bethune might not prove a ton, but NOT pushing them around tells us a lot, as it has in previous years.

OL Anez Cooper - Based on the camp hype, he's impressed. Look forward to watching #55 in a gap scheme where his sheer size and power might be of use to us later.

WR Brinson - Restrepo will get his looks and catches. Key Smith will as well. I'm looking for another one of these players (especially with George presumed out) who play in games better than they practice. Look for #0 in the RZ and, ideally, on some tougher slant or in-breaking routes we'll need.

WR Isaiah Horton - He may or may not get on the field late, but a flash here may help us later. Keep your eyes open late in the game for the taller #16 (assuming the current roster numbers didn't change).

DE Nyjalik Kelly - Release him. The much anticipated coming out party of a player many of us believed was underrated coming out of HS and has had nothing but praise from just about everyone. I can't even tell you his final number (#32?) because I'm not sure the roster (let's not make this that thread) is accurately updated. How early will he get in? Looking for 10-12 second half snaps. Maybe he flashes.

LB Caleb Johnson - I think we'll need #40 pretty quickly this season. Sometimes, it's tough to judge LBs in practice settings. I think LB evaluations are usually best left for game situations, and I hope Caleb or someone like him makes a move.

LB Chase Smith - The forgotten "freak." I really have no clear idea why #41 has gone almost unmentioned throughout Fall camp. Each time he was given an opportunity last season, in a scheme with no real structure, he made a few flash plays.

LB Wesley Bissainthe - For obvious reasons, #31 is a player I'll expect to see later in the game and hopefully "flying around." Young LBs often flash with their speed early in their careers. Over the last 40 years, we've seen it from some of our greats. Don't know if Wesley will reach those heights, but in a boring blowout-type game, that's something to look for during the 4th Q.

CB Malik Curtis - After the Spring game, I mentioned #16 looked sticky, but still undersized. He has his peers and coaches mentioning his name. Let's see what it looks like with the ball in the air. A Malek Young-type would be a welcomed development for the program.

CB Chris Graves and CB Jaden Harris - Love their attributes and feet. Let's see if they (a) get a chance and (b) Bethune puts the ball in the air against either of them (#22 and #19, respectively).
Excellent list @LuCane

That trio of LBs really sparks my interest as well. Will be interesting to see how many snaps they get and if they flash.

I know what we have in TVD so for the purposes of this game I'll be more interested in watching Jake Garcia and Jacurri Brown but mostly Garcia since he is the clear #2.

Thad Franklin is the RB I'm most interested in seeing. I want to see him dominate this type of opponent. We need Franklin to be ready to play a role this season.

DE/Edge I want to see Harvey, Agude and Kelly stand out.

I want to see how Keontra Smith plays at 230 LBs.

At CB Malik Curtis/Dunson/Graves/Harris/ and Porter.

At Safety I want to see if Washington/Balom/Markieth Williams flash or show us something.

I would rather not put Arroyo's ability to matchup with safeties deep down the seam on film quite yet. Save it for ATM.

At WR it would be nice to see Redding show something as well as Horton to get a glimpse at the future. Want to see Brashard Smith and his versatility. Want to see Brinson show #1 WR potential.

I want to see this OL dominate BCC or BCU or whatever they are called. Agree on Anez Cooper. McCoy as well would be interesting.

Jaleel Skinner showing what he can do.

Improved Tackling and effort.

The most important thing is that we come out of this game HEALTHY!!!!!!!!!

GO CANES!!!!!!

Steed, Flagg and Ragone -- they all get hated on to backvarious degrees and have younger and more athletic guys behind them, but will they look improved in a new scheme?
In my view, Steed gets criticized quite unfairly. This young man was a very good prospect coming out of Central HS. He wasn't Willie Williams in terms of athleticism but few are. However he had a good amount speed, quickness, athleticism and a tremendous football IQ to go with great instincts.

A knee injury in high school and another one here UM almost destroyed what was once a promising career. The speed, quickness and explosion didn't all return immediately. No it was a long grueling battle for Steed to even get back on the field and an even longer and more difficult battle for him to slowly get back the physical tools he had lost. Lesser men would have called it a career and given up on football a long time ago but Waynmon Steed didn't give up. He heard all the whispers about how he would never successfully come back from his injuries but the guy never gave up or gave in.

Now in his last year of eligibility fate has bestowed upon him a new head coach a new DC and a new position coach. In his final year, Steed has finally gotten his speed, quickness and explosion back and he will get an opportunity to contribute to his team in a real scheme and under elite coaching from Cristobal, Steele and Strong. Waynmon Steed isn't going to be an All American or a 1st round draft pick but he is poised to get plenty of playing time and be a significant contributor to his Miami Hurricanes. Something very few ever considered possible.

This young man shouldn't ever be hated on by the fans of this program and it ****es me off when I see it. On the contrary this kid should be universally respected by this fan base for his character, commitment, dedication and determination. We should all be very proud of what Waynmon Steed has accomplished in even getting back to being in a position to compete for a starting job. #17 is the personification of the mental toughness this program has prided itself on. This is his last year of eligibility and I will be rooting for him to succeed every time we take the field. He has earned that respect.

Does this mean we are, or are not Fuuckin'?
Which one is it man....

Thad
Ladson
TVD-if we are going to get him to NY he’ll need good numbers early. Keeping the 300/3 not realistic but need to pad season total.

Entire DL. Want that group to live in the backfield unil the last snap. See you guys at the game. GO CANES!!!!🙌🏿

I would say “comfortable” was an understatement

He looked like his heart rate never went above 60

Caleb Johnson is not who we thought he was. Too slow.
From my perspective, he was not impressive. I also didn't see the speed that everyone was talking about. I'm certainly not panicking but this LB corps currently won't get it done. We need Wes Bissainthe to get thrown in the fire and play now! Also Chase Smith must play although I don't know why he seems so buried on the depth chart. We need a serious infusion of speed, twitch, athleticism and explosion on defense. The CBs are also very lacking in this area minus the young kids obviously. The DL is also lacking elite level talent and athletic tools. The job Mario has done to patch up the DL this off-season was incredible but should not be confused with us having an elite DL. We have great depth which consists of solid to very good players but lacks big time elite level talent that pops. We have players that may develop into big time players like LT and Najalik Kelly but not nearly enough of them. We also need to take into consideration that this was the 1st game and this line will need more time to gel and develop chemistry.

In terms of the defense in general, a new DC, a new scheme and better coaching isn't going to magically erase the fact that we have athletic deficiencies at certain positions. The challenge the first year will be to instill fundamentals and good habits into these kids and build a solid foundation that way. Then as we add and stack talent, we can then add more concepts that we couldn't have run before. On the whole I think we need to sit back and realize that our weaknesses were not going to be transformed in one off season and that we are at the beginning of the journey/process. We're not starting from scratch but there is still work to be done. We will improve as the season goes along.

Right on point.
