Pinckney down to 215lbs

Bro I’m not arguing the weight Thing, I read what op said and I know how football weight works. I’m just pointing he’s been king spew the past couple weeks lol that’s why people are jumping on him
Wasn't directed at you. I just didn't feel like making a separate post to add the part about weight.

I hear this a lot and it's not as simple as some think...Sometimes they LOW Hole drop..where they drop to a certain area of the field playing a zone... QBs and OCs are smart...so if the LB drop is to shallow he throws the ball behind him.. if the LB drop is too deep QB tucks a run for the 1st it's a balancing act... and LBs in the box always have to honor the run so they can't get too far away cause they may be needed for run support.

Has he said anything about who has the edge at the Striker position and if the 4-2-5 has helped the pass D without giving up run support? Thanks.

Thank you for the explanation.

Because people here are pricks and they just want to jump on someone without even bothering to read their post.

Also, it's possible to lose fat while maintaining or even gaining weight.
To be honest, he also has a slight problem that whenever most of the board disagrees with him, he just repeats the same thing over and over insisting that people have a comprehension problem.

I also post stats and #s to back up my point, I don't just spew. It's a message board, we all disagree, but I try to add some actual factual evidence rather than spew like a lot do here. Just like this thread, I said nothing bad about the weight loss, just pointed out most elite lbers are bigger and that it does concern me. That's all I said, but it wasn't taken that way by some.

And if we are being honest, there is quite a few non-comprehending mofos around here I hate to say

Yeah, I have heard it both ways, you basically replaced a prototype backer with a hybrid safety, should improve coverage and overall team D speed

LB Mike Pinckney has shed about 10 pounds since last season from 225 pounds, and he says he feels lighter on his feet.

“I’m excited for fall camp,” Pinckney said. “I’m in way better shape than I was in the spring. I’m 215 right now. I’m able to run fast, feel I’m beter in shape to be in better condition to go all four quarters and some.

“I might end up putting five, six pounds back on, it depends. I’m comfortable at whatever weight I play. I’m comfortable with where I am right now. The offseason workouts have been great. Coach Gus (Felder), he’s really locked in with us and we’re really following his system so I feel we should be successful.”
215 not ideal weight for a college linebacker. Some running backs on teams we play will weigh about the same as Pinckney. Tight ends on opposing team will outweigh him by 20-30 pounds. He may therefore be blocked out of plays before he is in position to make tackle. Check the weights of line backers of top teams like Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson. Maybe Pinckney and coaches trying to reinvent the wheel.

I don't remember Vilma being that small, but you may be right.
https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/miami-(fl)-hurricanes-team-roster?season=2000 - his freshman year

These are the last 3 NFL drafts LBers that have gone Round 1:
2018
Smith - 236
Edmunds - 253
VanDerEsch - 256
Evans - 233

2017
Reddick - 235
Davis - 240
Foster - 230

2016
Floyd - 251
Lee - 233

I want my man to ball out here, but I also want him to get paid when he's done, lol

Not trying to **** on the man's future but who cares where he gets drafted. The coaches and/or Pinkney felt he would be more effective for the Canes if he lost some weight. I love when our guys ball out in the league but we need them to be at their most efficient here first and foremost.

I agree, but I do want my man to get paid, he likely won't at 215. He's been a great Cane and a leader, I'm pulling for him now and after, but I hear you. The NOW is more important to this years team. Again, my only concern is we removed one LBer and replaced him with a safety basically already and then Mike went down to 215, hopefully we tackle as well as last year at the point of attack, and we should be faster and cover better, but I'm a bit worried at this point, see what happens.

The idiocy is strong in this one. Ever heard of Su’a Cravens and Telvin Smith?

Think of the number of teams we play that spread the field, we need a hybrid that can cover and strike. We just don't play many teams that are going to ask you to line up in a traditional 4-3 anymore.

I can get behind that, but again, we already lost a linebacker in the new format, and if Mike is 215 we really only have one true LBer, that worries me a bit when teams are gonna line up and run big backs right at us. We will see, we were good against the run last season, hopefully that stays the same. Most Elite CFB teams still have bigger thumpers @ LBer, esp the 3-4 ones. I get the need for more speed, but at some point you can't have 6 db sized guys, 1 lb and a 4 man D-Line.

You started another thread stating you have a 100% confidence in our run this season, but are a bit worried about Pickney, and we also lost arguably our 3 best run defenders. I hope you are right.

I'm worried about our SIZE in the back 7 now, that's what I'm saying, we seemed to have phased McCloud out for a smaller guy. Does that make sense?

Some of those weights are skewed bc they are OLB in 3-4 defenses like Floyd, but you are correct. The NFL like their linebackers over 230. Shaq Thompson was considered a tweener at 228
Yeah, but the NFL has definitely adapted more and more. You see oversized safeties being used around the box more. Guys like Deonne Bucannon or Keanu Neal. Not to mention Telvin Smith has pretty much started in Jax since he was drafted. There's definitely a place for a heat-seeking missile like Pinckney.

One's a safety, one's 6 foot 4, but sure, I have...…. check my NFL draft list, get back to me sport
One is 6’3 and the other played LB at USC and spent his rookie year as a LB. How do you want your L shipped?

Because that’s how the game is transforming. Even Bama is fielding smaller backs than they’re used to playing with. Get a ******* clue.
