Piecing together Richt's staff (with updates)

My 2016 staff under Richt would look like this.

HC - Richt
OC/TE/ST - John Lilly
Passing game coordinator - James Coley
RB/Assis HC- Bryan McClendon (Georgia)
WR - Kevin Beard
OL - Larry Scott
DC/Assoc HC- Bryan Van Gorder (Notre Dame)
DL - Tracy Rocker/Chris Wilson (USC west)
LB - Hurlie Brown
DB - Willie Martinez (Tennessee)

The DC position should be very appealing to some big names. Not only do you get a certain amount of autonomy as long as you run a 4-3, it's a great stepping stone to being a Head Coach. You can turn around the defensive numbers quickly based on the talent we have coupled with the lack of production from the last several years and be seen as the man who turned around the defense quickly. Some big name and great DC's should be begging for this job.

totally agree with this ----- also, think its what's happening and will ultimately lead to a fantastic DC hire -- pretty excited

One of my unfounded fears is CMR simply dips into the pool of coaches he personally has a connection with.

There may be some excellent coaches in that group but if CMR is going to take his time and execute a national search I assume his DC might be someone other than a guy he had to fire a few years ago and his OL coach someone other than the current guy whose OL's have underachieved ever since he was rehired.

I think the next DC, well his top choice of DC, is currently employed and is waiting till after the bowl season.

If he's gonna be hands off on defense, I'd expect him to name DC first and then hire assistants with the DC.

As for offense, I think he goes young OC like w Bobo at UGA since Richt is calling plays.

Wilson would be an interesting pickup from USC. Has SEC ties (UGA/Miss St.) and DC experience as well as ST coach experience. Would be a good one if Rocker doesn't come.

If I may ask, why Lilly over BMac for OC?

You want to keep 4 guys from a failed staff?

Playing devil's advocate for a moment, but perhaps it wasn't Hurlie, Beard or Scott that made it fail? Also, in the above scenario Coley would be a recruiting presence only - as long as he's not calling plays, I don't mind keeping him around, I just doubt he'd go for that role.

Dont forget about Richts son, Jon, who is an asst coach for the Bills.

He will no doubt be on the staff in some capacity.

Genius screen name. No idea what it means, but I'm crying.

Let's see: Hurlie, Beard and Ice are all college rookie coaches.

Coley was a Rookie OC. Dorito was a DC for a few seasons prior.

Swasey has never coached anywhere else.

Larry scott has been a college coach since 2007.

The staff was absurdly green, and completely unqualified to be coaching at the university of Miami. It is a not a mystery why we were so beyond bad when you have a staff of amateurs.

View attachment 34329 This is latest from South Carolina coaching search. Only the one name I've seen mentioned here. Guess he is following muschomp and getting a promotion this time.

Wasn't Roper the OC at Florida when he got canned? Seems stupid to bring the guy back.

That's wat I'm telling them. He is gonna make same mistakes it seems

No, i would say Brent pease from boise was the fail hire. His prostyle system wasnt meshing well with the roster.

i think Roper didn't get a chance to get his footing with Pease style players.

We will see how it works out.
