Peter Ariz's Post-Practice Thoughts #9

I think we're good. If there is one person that can turn raw diamonds into something special, it's Mirabal.

People went from Cantwell potentially not starting to him basically being locked into LT. I think we will be far better than people anticipate purely because they have to block against these monsters every day.

My thoughts exactly.
Even with 3/4 gone, who on the schedule has a better and deeper room of edge and front 4 talent than we do? Notre Dame doesn’t. Will they be perfect? Of course not, but I don’t see them being an issue/slowing us down, barring injury of course *knock on wood*

I think the schedule is set up nicely to let them get reps before it gets tougher, which should help significantly.

This. OL is our “weak link” and it will never be a weak link with these coaches

Whichever 5 survives going against this DL all summer is gonna be happy to be playing against other teams

With the firepower on offense paired with one of the best defenses in the country, we’re going to blow out a lot of ACC teams. Compared to last year’s team, the 2026 squad is much better suited for regular-season dominance—largely because of improved talent and depth at wide receiver. Last year’s team, on the other hand, felt built for playoff football. We had Beck as the game manager, a strong run game with Fletcher/Marty, and the best line of scrimmage in the country

Is it going to be as good as last years? Definitely not. Is it still top 10 in the country? I definitely think so. This is a damm good O-line:

LT: Cantwell
LG: Samson
C: Rodriquez
RG: Buccanon
RT: McCoy

Doubtful. In 25, Lofton got 218 / 3 TDs, Bauman 166 / 1 TD, Gilbert 37 and Schott 24 0 TDs. And I doubt all of Lofton's yards were from the TE or split end position.

I'd rather go with 4 or 5 WRs TBH.
Lofton will be healthy, Gilbert will be a better target than Bauman, and Mueller is a new target that's ahead of where the freshmen were last year. And Mensah may actualy be looking for the TEs.

Its really just the Tackle spots that we should be worried about for the oline

We have two guys who we have seen at guard and a young guy that most are high on, our center has been here forever and mirabal said he could have started last year, merriweather has played guard before as well

Now we have cantwell at LT who’s ahead of schedule but im sure there will be growing pains in pass pro. At RT? This is the spot that has the most uncertainty if mccoy isn’t a smooth transition

Good stuff. Luka has some serious potential to have a breakout year.

Def need the unit to step up. Its a wide open door and we need luka to apply pressure aswell as the rest of the crew. Mario has proven production from O-line,dline,qb,db,w/r, and lb unit.
The only unit that has been lacking consistently is the tight ends unit and I think on the podcast Peter reported that mario is going to be a lil more hands on in the begining of spring and here we are, fast forward a few weeks and we get another intense quote from cristobal.

Um needs higher expectations from last yr and UM will need all hands on deck given the fact we had transfers and injuries that slowed down the development of that specfic unit. Seeing what other posters just posted about briggs is great news and is something to look forward to. Injuries do happen and next man must be ready.

Here it is being reported that mario told luka to "throw him in the effing canal "= G.A.B.O.S . Sound like some UM talk.

Yeah I don’t know what it will ultimately look like but if OL is our biggest question mark then I’m more than good with that. Mensah will help a lot. He’s much better than Beck and moving around and buying time.

As others have said, I’m not so worried about OL. You’ll have growing pains, but you have a nice mix of experience and freakish ability. I don’t perceive that as the weak link.

Keeping it buck, TE is flat out most worrisome for me. It was the position I was most worrried about going into last year too.

I really love the potential of Briggs and Mueller, but you just don’t have a proven guy you can pencil in on a down to down basis.

Luka flashes but is way too inconsistent right now. Lofton isn’t a TE, which is fine, but not when he’s at the top of the depth chart there.

Still time for big leaps to be made, obviously, but TE is a grown man position from a physical and mental standpoint in the Miami offense and it’s really the only position on the team where we don’t have at least one “guy” we KNOW can play it the way the system demands.

Things been real quiet on lofton is this his yr he shows out.

As he pushed the unit? He was obviously a key missing piece in the ship.

That’s two 5 stars, one 4 star, one 6th year SR and one 5th year SR, being coached by the best offensive line coaches in all of college football and that’s including the new TE coach.

LT: Cantwell 5 star
LG: Samson 5 star
C: Rodriquez 6th year SR
RG: Buccanon 4 star
RT: McCoy 5th year SR

There might be 4 teams in the country who wouldn’t trade their line for this one.

I think that month of playoff practice is going to payoff big for Cantwell, he will be playing like a vet by game 5.
