Other side of coaching: Matt Campbell

Lmao you gotta be trolling at this point . Pitt and NC State were both ranked higher than us when we played . Are they more talented than us ? Did we “beat a more talented team” when we played them because they had a ranking next to their name ?
Your using poll rankings to judge talent, WTF kind of logic is that?
Like I said earlier, poll rankings is probably the most accurate way. It sure isn't recruiting rankings unless you believe Mark Pope is a 5*. All you have to do is look over the past 5 years of ESPN 300, 247, and Rivals, and 1. each recruiting service has different rankings for the athletes, and 2. The players certainly don't live up to the rankings.

Recruiting rankings for single players is a crapshoot. When it comes to team rankings, they’re a pretty decent indicator for overall team talent and results.
team rankings is better than player, but the team is just a cumulation of bad player rankings. I remember ESPN used to write articles going back in time and re-ranking the recruiting classes.....interesting how they change drastically with hindsight.

Does NC State have more talent than us , yes or no

This is a wild and also incorrect way of thinking about things. I'm not even sure I've heard anyone ever try to justify that line of thinking because it is so bizarre and wrong.

Team consistently play better/worse then their talent level. Programs like Miami have played below their talent level for 15 years while programs like WI play above their talent level. Miami plays worse because they have had terrible coaching, bad player development, and poor leadership.

I'm not even sure why I'm responding because you are either trolling or its such a ridiculous metric that I'm not sure it matters what I say.

They change a lot with hindsight, but for the most part, the teams that consistently rank higher in team recruiting are the better/more successful programs.

Matt Cambell's ISU teams

2021:

#9 ISU lost to #10 Iowa
#14 ISU lost to UR Baylor
UR ISU beat #8 Okie St.
#22 ISU lost to UR UWV
UR ISU lost to UR Tex. Tech
UR ISU lost to #13 OU.

2020:

All the teams ISU beat they were ranked higher than but lost to:

#6 Okie St. and #10 OU

2019:

The only team ranked higher than ISU that they beat was #19 Texas. They lost to #19 Iowa, #22 ND, and #9 OU

2018:

the only higher ranked team ISU beat was #6 UWV. Lost to #5 OU, #13 Texas, and #12 WAZZU

2017:

Beat #3 OU, #4 TCU, and #19 Memphis

2016:

Lost to every ranked team ISU faced

Summary: quit spreading the false narrative that Matt Campell consistently wins games against better teams, because besides 2017, that simply isn't true. There's a reason why Matt Campbell is still at ISU and will be there. He's an overrated coach.
The people that know football have tremendous respect for Matt.

MAC Coach of the Year (2015)
3x Big 12 Coach of the Year (2017, 2018, 2020)
2x AP Big 12 Coach of the Year (2017, 2020)

Matt would be a great hire at UM and the offense would be even better. The defense would get fixed, finally. UM would be fortunate to have him running their program.

Really? He’s at Iowa St. Literally was a joke before he got there - like 2 bowl games in 3 decades. Last year he beat Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., and Texas, and embarassed Oregon in the bowl game. And he is doing it with 2 and 3 star kids. Does that help at all?
Using facts on CiS is frowned upon. Next time try more appeals to emotions and or personal insults.

Iowa state, since 2017, averages a recruiting ranking of around 50. Middle of the pack in the big 12. Yes there are busts, plenty of them. Which means he is playing with exclusively 3 star players and his records are well above that ranking. Now maybe he is just all world at judging talent and every 3 star he finds is that diamond in the rough, or maybe, just f-in maybe, he isn't that bad of a coach. Does admitting that hurt your ego too much?

Overrated. Perfect for ISU but I don’t get the hype. Same with Fleck. That dude is a weirdo. Have a buddy who was the punter at Western Michigan when Fleck was there and he hated the guy. Total d bag and his whole row the boat nonsense is a publicity stunt.

I wish we had some connection to him, he's an elite coach in my eyes with how he consistently beats better talented teams
On one side that would speak to his coaching acumen.....on the other side though, how would he respond with being the "favorite" with the target on his teams back week in and week out.

It's not that UM is a powerhouse football program, I mean we all live it day in and out so we know we're not that. It's the media and the recruiting sites that create that target. From refereeing big time HS football in NC, I'm telling you that OOS kids get sick of hearing how "GREAT" Florida football talent is, and specifically South FLA. So when "lesser talented" teams play us, it doesn't matter if we're 2-4 or 6-0, those kids will always get up to play Miami because at these Rivals camps etc they're always hearing so much about how much "BETTER" the FL talent is than other states. A win vs Miami is almost like a feather in a kids cap, they see it as destroying "overrated" FL kids, not one team beating another lol.

Suffice to say, I would take Matt Campbell over keeping CMD in a heartbeat.

That's not the argument. Again, the argument is his team has consistently over the years beaten more talented teams, and since 2017 that has not been the case.

2021: beat #8 Okla. St but lost to Iowa, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Baylor
2020: beat #18 OU and #17 Texas (but ISU was ranked #13). Lost to #6 Okla. St. and #10 OU
2019: beat #19 Texas. Lost to #19 Iowa, UR Baylor, UR OK. St., #9 OU, UR K-State, #15 ND
2018: beat #6 UWV, #25 OK. St. Lost to #5 OU, UR TCU, #13 Texas, #12 WAZZU

That's one, maybe two good wins a season with some bad losses to unranked teams since 2017. The narrative about Campbell's ISU teams consistently beating more talented teams hasn't been true since 2017.

Since 2017: ISU has finished 7th, tied for 3rd, 6th, 2nd, and 4th in the Big 12. But hey, now that Texas and OU are leaving, he may actually win a conference championship, but they most certainly won't make the CFP.

Campbell, Gundy OK St, Stoops UK, Cristobal, Kiffin…

Would be happy with any of them.

Easy to find a way to pick any one of them apart because you think you know what is best.

Met and spoke with Coach Campbell a few times. he recruited my godson, TJ Tampa to ISU. great guy.

I’m a fan of Campbell but he severely underachieved this year with all he had coming back. He can’t beat Iowa and has other bad losses, especially on the road. Hopefully isu gives him a raise to stay though

Not sure if everyone got to see this. Pretty cool.

Just a small window into the heart of a coach who is in it for the right reason. Might play against us with Mario (loyalty) but nice to see nonetheless. Big Campbell fan!

That’s the..”I’m not gunna be here next year face”

Some of our fans man LOL. This is exactly how we got stuck with Golden...we never learn.
It’s impressive that he can win 8 a year at such a bad football school, and periodically pulls of a huge upset. BUT I do think he’s massively overrated.
