The people that know football have tremendous respect for Matt.
MAC Coach of the Year (2015)
3x
Big 12 Coach of the Year (2017, 2018, 2020)
2x AP Big 12 Coach of the Year (2017, 2020)
Matt would be a great hire at UM and the offense would be even better. The defense would get fixed, finally. UM would be fortunate to have him running their program.
That's not the argument. Again, the argument is his team has consistently over the years beaten more talented teams, and since 2017 that has not been the case.
2021: beat #8 Okla. St but lost to Iowa, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Baylor
2020: beat #18 OU and #17 Texas (but ISU was ranked #13). Lost to #6 Okla. St. and #10 OU
2019: beat #19 Texas. Lost to #19 Iowa, UR Baylor, UR OK. St., #9 OU, UR K-State, #15 ND
2018: beat #6 UWV, #25 OK. St. Lost to #5 OU, UR TCU, #13 Texas, #12 WAZZU
That's one, maybe two good wins a season with some bad losses to unranked teams since 2017. The narrative about Campbell's ISU teams consistently beating more talented teams hasn't been true since 2017.
Since 2017: ISU has finished 7th, tied for 3rd, 6th, 2nd, and 4th in the Big 12. But hey, now that Texas and OU are leaving, he may actually win a conference championship, but they most certainly won't make the CFP.
