OT: Ultra Miami the new Fyre?

Ultra spawned out of the WMC. Crazy that it all began just over 30 years ago and really hit its stride mid to late 90's. Starting after college I got into throwing parties, having club nights, and writing or photographing a lot of these large events for publications. It took me all over the country and even overseas once, some great times. Crazy part, never tried a drug the entire time, but just enjoyed the music and general friendliness of it all. Fun way to make money is a bonus and constant travel.

$h!!!!!!!t, you need to watch the Dirty Money documentary on NF, Scott Tucker was waaaaaay worse than the Fyre guy.

I mean there’s no comparison to Scott Tucker. Tucker was way worse because of his reach and scope. Damage he did was way more broad and more insidious.

The Fyre guy is way more entertaining, though, The documentary is more enjoyable, because even though some people were hurt pretty badly, mainly the Bahamian workers, I wasn’t crying too much about spoiled millennials getting their asses handed to them. I hate to admit it, but it’s true.

I mean the Fyre guy is still a sociopathic conman of the first order, but he did it in an area where there’s lots of potential for yuks and entertainment. Tucker on the other hand is way more serious

Yeah, I felt really bad for the lady that had to pay all those workers with Her retirement savings, good thing She was able to recoup Her money.

Impressed you did that without taking drugs.

Shaq moshing should be illegal lol. It looked like he was knocking around a bunch of 5th graders. He actually got to make an Ultra appearance as someone alluded to on here a few months back. He didn’t get to DJ as he had hoped to but did get to MC.

To be fair. I am not a fan of that type of music either, but it was insanely fun and if you are a student at UM and you don't go it probably means you are a massive fakkit with no friends.

I listen to all genres but EDM will always be my favorite. I was just getting a rep built as a DJ when I had my spinal cord injury that put an end to that dream. D1 football was my main goal but bringing people from all over the world together dancing and having a good time despite their differences was always very appealing to me.

That is pretty cool. I am a rap fan myself, but the EDM events are always fun.

Rap is being incorporated more and more each year so you may become a fan in the future.

For sure. I know they have a lot of rap artists that perform at the EDM events. I know a couple EDM guys even made some beats for rappers.

I don't mind EDM. Especially at clubs or places like that its the best type of music. I just personally am really into lyrics which is why rap is my favorite music to listen to in my car or at home chilling.

Or it could have meant that you weren't going to(or couldn't afford) spend hundreds of dollars on a pass, which entitled you to spend a day around a bunch of idiots stoned out of their minds. I went to Ultra a couple of times during my undergrad years, and had I not had comp passes due to a friend being a performer on one of the side stages, I wouldn't have. Not into EDM, and I don't suffer fools. The only good thing was the female talent, but it's Miami, you could have seen talent just hanging out at the UC Pool. At least those women wouldn't have been stoned or drunk to the point where you didn't want to hit on them.

Ultra, like pretty much all music festivals is extremely overrated, and a way for companies to scam money out of people with more cash than sense.

Or they realized that they needed to expand their reach, and if they can sell the rap generation on EDM, that's more people that will come. Remember, the oldest part of the rap generation are solidly middle class or better at this point, which means we can pay for these passes and spend money at the festival.
