OT - The Irishman

I told my mother to watch it because she's a big Robert De Niro fan. I talk to her this morning and she says that I must've been mistaken about the cast. That Bobby D wasn't in it at all. That maybe I was thinking of Paul Sorvino.

She watched Kill The Irishman.

De Niro was a legend before he was 40. He is limited now, but he is untouchable.

Very good movie but nowhere near the best of MS.

Also Liberty... what did you think of the Raid series?
Truthfully, only the first Raid is a good film. The sequel has some legendary sequences but it's a bad film overall.

Oh yeah? OT, but this video is crack for martial arts fans (OT again, but the Wu Tang show is surprisingly pretty good).

Some of my favorites of all-time:

Enter The Dragon (one of my top 3 of all-time)
Fist Of Fury
Game Of Death
The Way Of The Dragon
13 Assassins (I Highly Recommend 13 Assasins if you haven't seen it, Elite film)
Ip Man 1-3
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Ninja Scroll
Ong-Bak
The Grandmaster
Five Deadly Venoms
Red Cliff
The Man From Nowhere
Shaolin and Wu Tang
Bloodsport
The Last Dragon
Lone Wolf and Cub Sword of Vengeance

If you're talking about the Martial arts movie The Raid, then yeah I like the first one, not the 2nd.

If you're talking about the TV series The Raid about those Russian cops, then no I didn't really like that one but I only saw a few episodes of it.

Interesting.

I thought the dialogue and acting was very good, but the overall story was a bit lacking.
Saw it literally the first hour came out on Neflix a few days ago. I thought it was pretty good but definitely had some things lacking. I did like how they portrayed Jimmy Hoffa and also how the De Niro character was somewhat different from other roles he has done with Scorsese.
Also felt that they could have added more with the Harvey Keitel scenes

I agree that Keitel was underused.

Basically only had one scene.

It’s not that noticeable except for one scene involving a supermarket.
They did a good job with it.
That’s the only scene when he beats that guy up at the super market where you can tell it’s a 76 year old man right there. The way he moves and the hesitation before kicking him looked really silly. Like really silly! Surprised Scorsese didn’t reshoot that scene. Other then that it was a great movie!

Agreed.

What make it even stranger is there were at least a couple of ways he could’ve made it work.

Either use a double, similar to what he did for the Pacino/Graham fight scenes.

Or just film De Niro’s upper body.

The scenes with Pacino and Stephen Graham were phenomenal.

De Niro’s talk with the nurse was also very good.
I thought the scenes with just Pesci and De niro were the best. I actually thought Pesci was phenomenal and really was the most important role.
Pacino sure as **** ran 1000% in the role of Hoffa.

I have a ton of Marty hot takes. Here are a few.

1. DeNiro had the best performance in Goodfellas. Understated, but menacing (much like the real guy he was playing if you ever read the book).

2. Casino is more enjoyable than Goodfellas. Not better. Just more fun.

3. Bringing Out The Dead is his most underrated film.

4. He doesn't get asked about directing the Bad video enough for my liking.

5. Wolf of Wall Street is a Top 3 Marty film.
I met the real guy a few times. Jimmy Burke, I went to school with his son. Both huge ********. I also knew the real wolf of Wall Street too well. 2 of my good friends went to jail because of him.

You wont’t find a bigger Pacino fan than me, but three hours in, his rantings were starting to wear a little thin.

I enjoyed the scene of him and De Niro in the hotel room before bed.
