OT - The Irishman

You wont’t find a bigger Pacino fan than me, but three hours in, his rantings were starting to wear a little thin.

I enjoyed the scene of them in the hotel room before bed.
Lol.... I am probably the biggest Pacino fan in the world and actually look a lot like him when I was in the military they used to call me Scarface and also Pacino because we have a strong resemblance but he is older than me obviously.
That's why I wrote that he went a thousand percent into it because he was all over the place. But some of his dialogue was on point and he really made everyone around him just love and want to do everything for him

You ever see Heat?

That’s my all time favorite movie.

He’s incredible in it.

I met the real guy a few times. Jimmy Burke, I went to school with his son. Both huge ********. I also knew the real wolf of Wall Street too well. 2 of my good friends went to jail because of him.
Man, I know you have some stories. Burke's own son, who was also a hitter, said he didn't think his father would hesitate to kill him. Guy was the scariest kind of sociopath.

Yup Heat is in my Top 5 all-time.

Along with Ali, it's Michael Mann's best work. Amazingly accurate dialogue & still the greatest & most realistic shootout scene in a movie ever.

Really great casting too with De Niro, Pacino, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight, Ashley Judd, Dennis Haysbert, Ted Levine, Danny Trejo & even Henry Rollins lol.

This line was allegedly improvised according to Michael Mann, which make it even greater.
A lot of the dialogue between De Niro & Pacino at the diner when they finally met each other was improv as well.

The "wtf is that, Barbecues & Ball games" line was straight off the top of the dome from De Niro lol.

Agreed.

What make it even stranger is there were at least a couple of ways he could’ve made it work.

Either use a double, similar to what he did for the Pacino/Graham fight scenes.

Or just film De Niro’s upper body.
Exactly! A double or just showing him from The waist up like in goodfellas when he’s stomping billy bats at Henry hills bar would have worked much better. Another scene where you could tell it was a 76 year old man was when he was throwing the gun out into the ocean and he had to step on wet big rocks and I remember thinking as I’m watching it he’s gonna fall and break a hip. Lol but that’s just being overly picky for conversations sake, it wasn’t nearly as bad as the super market scene which was the one that looked the most obvious.

Funny thing is, the studios weren’t convinced the story would sell, so they had Mann adapt his movie script into a TV pilot.

No one picked it up, so Mann turned the failed pilot into a TV Movie.

It’s called “L.A. Takedown”.

Released in 1989.

It was a success so they let him make Heat.

I've actually seen LA Takedown. It's like diet Heat.

That’s the only scene when he beats that guy up at the super market where you can tell it’s a 76 year old man right there. The way he moves and the hesitation before kicking him looked really silly. Like really silly! Surprised Scorsese didn’t reshoot that scene. Other then that it was a great movie!
Yeah that scene was really bad.

Very underrated role and rant in The devil’s advocate.
