OT: Strong out at Texas

Herman ain't leaving Houston.

Texas is a career killer job right now. Too much pressure.

Herman makes $4 million. Not worth the extra $1-$2 million.

herman to UT feels like a lock.. they can pay more than houston can, and there's never going to be any concern of getting into the CFP if his team goes undefeated.

Herman won't stay at houston. Sounding more and more like big 12 doesn't want to expand anymore. Its only a matter of time.

Did you ask Herman about the extra 1-2 extra millions (probably more) in his bank account?
Sounds like you know.

And you're right, Texas gig is a coach killer.......for bad coaches....same deal with UM, Alabama, LSU, USC, etc.

Assuming he is fired, Strong will be the only recent coach who was fired. Except for Mack Brown who was way too old to be coaching at the end of his career.

I could at least see if he argued something like USCw or ND is a career killer considering their recent head coaches. ND will probably soon fire its 4th straight coach. USCw will soon fire its 3rd straight, and about 7 of last 8 dating back to before Pete Carroll.

I wonder if Finebaum has chimed in as yet, with him being an eggspurt on "Firesales."

Programs like Kansas and Kansas State are coach killers, especially the latter because a good coach may not be able to win at a program like that in the middle of nowhere with expectations of going bowling every year. Elite programs are not coach killers.... It is quite the opposite.

Coaches are going to be scarred to go to Texas. I doubt Herman, Chip, or anyone who is already being paid well takes that job. I thought strong was doing well for a team that had to be cut, scrapped, and started new. I don't know of many coaches who will want to jump on that job. Les Miles might get looked at for it.

strong has something to prove. his L-ville teams was built around a huge recruiting class he got when Randy was fired. He really cleaned up south florida. that being said, he might be a good coach in the wrong place. i just dont think texas is for him.

If Houston was smart, they would match what people offer.

They already upped his salary and are paying him as much as bigger schools pay their coaches. Tom Herman's salary is around $4 million.

He'd leave UH because of the prestige of being in a major conference. Not because of the salary.

I don't see Herman leaving Houston.

Why would he?

Certainly not for the $. Dude makes 4 mil with no pressure.

I can see Texas going all in for Chip Kelly.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs. At some point the money becomes secondary to esteem and self actualization. In other words, Herman wants to prove he can win on the biggest stage in CFB. Make no mistake about it -- he is not finishing his career at Houston. He'll take one of these jobs eventually. I still say Texas but LSU wouldn't surprise me either.

Clintt Hurtt came in and got Strong Bridgewater and some other players Shannon was attempting to recruit. Unfortunately Hurtt didn't join Strong at Texas and instead went to the NFL.

This is what people don't get. Coaches are conquerers. Yes, the money is phenomenal, but these guys move up into Power 5 conferences because they want to win football games at the highest level.

Beat me by a minute.

Supposedly Herman was going to go to USCe but changed his mind after they lost to an FCS patsy right before the Clemson game. He also heard about the horrendous beyond belief recruiting Spurrier did his last few years there.
