OT: Spencer Jones

I knew from his first punch he’d had training , then that over hand right came in lol
No way anyone beats a focused, trained fighter. Short, compact punches and it's over. If I was a younger man, I'd laugh at this. In my older years, I say the MMA dude should have walked away. He knew he could destroy the dude. I know he got pushed, but it never should've gotten to that. Guessing he's gonna have some legal trouble.

Karate dojos really blew up in the 70s and through the 80s. The result is a lot of bad schools out there, and "black belts" that are pretty worthless (and a lot of dudes pretending they have a black belt). One "black belt" might have 2 years of elementary training without ever sparring or sparring with full contact. Another might have trained for 5 years with full contact sparring a few times per week for his black belt. There are some karate black belts who are dangerous (at least on their feet), but there are a ton of them who have never been in anything resembling a real fight in their lives.

Sadly, BJJ has gotten that way with its popularity through the UFC/MMA craze. Mileage varies greatly between gyms. The floor is higher though, since the fundamentals of BJJ require your training to utilize some degree of sparring (instead of just practicing katas in front of a mirror or lining up punching/kicking imaginary opponents).

Tae Kwan Do is just fundamentally among the worst. Bunch of spinning, jumping, and turning techniques that look very cool when you are sparring for points or nobody is fighting back, but the moment anyone with their balls on tight and some power comes forward you're in trouble.

If I was 16 again, I'd probably pick something more combat-focused like Krav Maga.

Carl Douglas version much better though.

I'll come out of Lurker-ville to comment on this one. First the guys above talking about Karate guys being bad-asses, I'm sorry but that's just not true in my experience. I used to work the door (bouncer) at clubs back in the 80's and I've seen so many Karate black belts get their asses stomped it's not funny, and not by other "martial artists" but by average dudes who didn't take ****e from anybody. And don't get me started on Tae kwan do, Good grief, breaking pine boards? Great. Fighting? Absolute ****e. Second, the guy talking about his friend the "tunnel rat in Nam", he's probably full of ****e. In my current line of work (MRI tech) I hear this BS almost every day from guys who are claustrophobic and feel like they need an excuse because they're ashamed. If someone tells you that, ask to see their Rat tat that they all had, if he doesn't have one he's a liar. There were only around 100 and less than half made it out alive. About 10 years ago a reporter did a story on them and could only find 12 still around. They were almost exclusively asian or hispanic and they ALL were little dudes, so that they could fit in the little tunnels. I literally had 2 guys tell me that BS last week and both of them were over 6 feet tall.
My dad was in Vietnam and he said that the tunnel rats were the small guys that had no brains in their heads. Brave & courageous, but crazier than ****. He also said it was a voluntary job, so I'm guessing you had to be a bit crazy to do it.

Writing checks his a** can’t cash.

Roger Huerta destroyed Texas LB (I believe Rashad Bobino*) a few years back on State Street in Austin after that pos (LB dude) knocked a girl out👇

Didnt Huerta fight in the 150s?

*Apologies to Bobo if I have this detail incorrect

I did Krav Maga about 16 years ago. Way better for real life defending yourself than tae kwon do which I did when I was younger.

I thought at first, he might have exceeded reasonably necessary force at the push and after but when I consider everything, I don’t think so.

I think the 2 bullies were working in concert so it doesn’t matter who pushed him of the 2. I think it was a continuation of the hostilities. It seems to me like he already walked away. He had a bloody nose from before, supposedly from a sucker punch. Now he’s in a corner in a bathroom being threatened and pushed by the same guys apparently.

He’s not obligated to take another bloody nose punch. He defended himself and the other guy didn’t stop so he kept on. I’d guess that Oklahoma is a stand your ground type of state too.

The overwhelming majority of sane people see that kid as the heroic protagonist in this story. Load Spencer should take his lumps and retreat to anonymity. He should be the joke of all jokes after that encounter.
The Walker Brown kid that beat his *** is a local kid working 2 jobs and putting himself through school at OU, standing there with a bloody nose and on the continuing receiving end of aggressive actions from the assailants, the main one being a transfer football player from Liberty who is from the state of Tennessee. I’d much rather defend Brown.

You'd have to be a certified mongoloid to prosecute that dude. Period. Those 2 loads were willing participants and aggressors in an obvious confrontation. You're not required to take a beating before you defend yourself, and you're not required to do all kinds of mental contortions about the level of force you're using when you're in the midst of defending yourself.

All legal analysis in this thread is academic mental *********ion and not a reflection of the real world, which is what this was. A spur of the moment real world situation that the two football loads could have avoided very easily but instead chose to perpetuate. As willing participants, they will take their Ls and should disappear back into obscurity.

I’m hoping that @bradtejeda and @Canes Legacy can get Walker Brown and his brother on their next CIS podcast after tonight’s drops.

A few years back there was a UFC guy who was pretty average as far as skills go but the dude had elbows like razors. I don't know if he was just born with sharp elbows or if that came from years of practice. He ended becoming a UFC analyst later on but I can't remember the name.

If an opponent caught an elbow from the dude, it made Ric Flair's forehead blading seem like a papercut. It would be easy for an untrained person to lose an eye if they ever got into a street fight with that dude and he popped them with an elbow. Moral of the story, in today's day and age, it's a lot more dangerous to get into a fight than it was back in the 90s. Hard to tell if the other dude is a specialist in Mexican Judo= Judon't know if he has a gun or a knife...

Those wrestling dudes are no joke

A few things...

1) why aren't we talking about the dude casually using the urinal while it all went down?

2) Can we find the cat doing his Larry Merchant blow-by-blow and get him as guest commentator here on CIS!!??

I mean what do you expect him to do.

If I was in there taking a ****, you don’t get flustered, you take care of your business and then you leave. I’m not walking out with a full bladder all uncomfortable. I think we’ve all seen a few bar fights before.
