OT: Penn St safety on Manny Diaz

He is a good guy. He is an excellent politician. He’s a bad football coach. The program, players and most fans have moved on. Next
We ultimately won as a program, because we have Mario now and the support the program should have had for the last forty years.

Playing Safety in Manny's [previous] system is a tough task. No idea if he's changed it or will add some new coverages, but cot**** did some of our guys find themselves in no man's land.
So much responsibility for the average college safety. You have to be the smartest guy on the field while also being able to tackle like a middle linebacker.

Like any system, Manny’s works better when he has the right players. He needs intelligent safeties and disruptive DTs for his system to work. He inherited a really good group here when he got hired as DC and the numbers backed it up. As more of his recruits started playing, the worse the defense got. They peaked in 2018 with what was pretty much a top 5 defense but the writing was on the wall in 2019 when things started to slip. By 2020, the wheels had completely fallen off. I expect similar results at Penn State. He’ll be good for a few years but unless they have someone doing ALL the recruiting, they’ll likely end up where we were.

Came across Google News feed this morning. Semi interesting. he will probably do ok as DC there - honestly wish him the best and he is should be smart enough to grow from his experience but doesn't this sound familiar? lol

Just like us Manny will be lights out year 1 and by year four once teams figure what his D they will be trash

Franklin realizes he's a moron, but a moron who is a complete coward yes-man.

Franklin will simply tell him to implement a certain scheme and to teach things a certain way. No gimmicks. And he will have his yes-man DC.
Franklin is also not fully loved in Happy Valley.

If history teaches us anything, expect Pedo State's D to give up record setting levels of futulity while Diaz is there.

A plausible scenario unfolds where Franklin fires Diaz because his wife isn't hot enough as he's feeling the heat from not winning the Big 10.

Expect riots if they lose to Auburn in game 3.

It’s got nothing to do with figuring out his defense. It doesn’t take 4 years for coaches to know how to attack a defense. Especially when the DC has been a coordinator for over a decade. There’s a ton of film on Manny’s defenses for offensive coaches to break down already. They’ll start to suck when he doesn’t have good enough players. Which will likely happen eventually because he’s not a good recruiter.

He may be his replacement.

Manny is only as good as his talent on the field. Best thing is that psu has a head coach to get the team prepped and up for games. Manny was horrible at both.
