OT: Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez killed

Wow.... That's crazy man, smh...

The Marlins were the only other Miami team I liked, Jose was my absolute favorite pitcher.

He was having a Cy Young season, **** what a terrible tragedy

Marlins press conference was just on. Brutal to watch. Kid was an ace on the hill and off from all reports. RIP #16

Yep, brutal. Mattingly and Michael Hill were both a mess. Must be even tougher in that sport as you're together almost year round.

Donny describing him like watching a little boy play little league with the passion and enjoyment of the game. Got some dust in my eyes.

Very sad! Full of life, passion and energy. Great young man. It was a great pleasure to watch him play. RIP. Prayers to the family

He meant so much to the Cubano community, the kid was a Superstar, having to overcome so much adversity and going through everything he went through it was always amazing watching him pitch, he really loved the game.

I seen him pitch live probably a dozen times, and when he was on he had the nastiest stuff out there, nobody was touching him.
Miami is hosting the All-Star game next year, and I was absolutely looking forward to seeing him start that game with him & Stanton representing us well, and just finally getting the Marlins back into contention in the East... Smh, just terribly sad man.

Thoughts and prayers with the families. Just saw him pitch against Cincinnati a few months back. Crazy.

This kid was my favorite athlete. Watching him play or even supporting his team when not on the mound brought a smile to my face.
My son knew him and said he was as friendly and genuine as he looked on TV.
RIP Jose

It was a pleasure to watch this guy perform. This feels so much like ST. Same age, same freakish talent, same love for the game.

I am thankful that I got to be there for his last start. RIP Jose. He will be remembered in Miami as a legend.

On his fourth attempt to leave Cuba, his mom went overboard, he jumped in and saved her life. At the time he didn't know it was his mom that fell in the water, he risked his own life to save another. He was only 15 at the time and had already been jailed for attempting to leave the island.

The kid was a prime example of resiliency, having gone through more things that most of us can't imagine (can't believe someone would actually make jokes about this tragedy). RIP Jose

I didn't follow him closely but what a joyful human being. He loved life so much more than baseball which says a lot. I came across a quote from him saying that "people born into freedom don't really know freedom"....so true these days. His testimony is enlightening to all.
