OT: Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez killed

Somewhere between shocking and relieving, as we thought a friend of ours (part of the boating crew they ran with) was on the boat.

Crazy stuff, man.

Man, it's hard to even think about something like this in the face of this tragedy, but this guy was about to be the one of, if not THE, highest paid players in baseball. His current contract pays him peanuts when you look at his actual value and output. I pray he took care of his money and left enough for his impending child, mother, and grandmother.

Awful tragedy.

Very sad.

Hopefully people will learn from this.

Nobody is invincible. No life jackets speeding around at 1:00 am is a recipe for disaster for even the most experienced boater.

This is unspeakably awful. Some men have transcendent skills, standing high above a field of giants. He was the best young arm I've seen since Pedro Martinez.

Sad day. I only go to Marlins to watch him pitch. Been blessed to have watched him a couple of dozen times and he was always incredible...

Just another painful reminder that we are all on borrowed time...enjoy life

i don't watch baseball but why is a pitcher who was starting today out boating in the early hours of the morning? is that normal?

Madness. Was to start today, but was pushed back to Monday. Have to think he isn't on a boat last night if he is to pitch the 1:10 game today.

******* A.

Whoever pushed his start back to Monday should be charged with murder. It's his fault.

He wasn't supposed to start today....he's coming off Tommy John so every couple starts are pushed back to give him rest and also to help limit his innings. This was one of those starts....he was actually supposed to pitch tomorrow
