OT: Lincoln Riley Is A Scumbag

Should the NCAA also set admission standards across the board for every institution to follow? Wouldn't that help set the "equal playing field"too? That way certain schools can't say say no to a recruit who has gained the necessary admissions for the Clearinghouse, but not a particular school.

Maybe set standards the amount of money each school can allot to their facilities, to include their stadium. Maybe that would work also.

Maybe determine their uniforms and shoes selections also.

There are far greater concerns than this.

How many championships has this created for the Big 12?

One could argue it hurts the Big 12 more than it helps. So nobody in the conference benefits from this.

So you're cool with eliminating the minimum admissions standards the NCAA has already set? Let the SEC set their own? Conference rights!

This isn't remotely about seeking an "equal playing field". It's about having a modicum of universal structure in direct relation to an issue the NCAA AND conferences try to convince the world still exists- "amateurism" and "student athletes".

Allowing the restriction of GRAD transfers in this manner is completely antithetical to all of that Kool Aid.

From the article:

As it gets a commitment from Alabama graduate transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma is blocking quarterback Austin Kendall from becoming immediately eligible at West Virginia as a graduate transfer, sources told ESPN.

Hurts committed to Oklahoma in a letter on The Players' Tribune on Wednesday.

According to the author of that article, Hurts is gone.

I didn't say that. I said just make those minimum standards the "law". Isn't that what you want, total consistently across the board? If an athlete meets those standards then a school can't say no to his admission.

Think about how many times over the years kids were said to have met the standards for the NCAA, but denied by the UM admissions department. Why not let the NCAA set all standards for admissions that doesn't allow the school to then follow up with a "no entry."

You would have to go ask the Big 12 why they have this rule, and then go ask the SEC why they don't. I don't know why they do and/or don't. However, it does set the playing field equal within the Big 12. All schools can shoot down in house transfers while simultaneously being able to go after kids like Hurts. That is an equal playing field within a conference. It doesn't give one school an advantage over the other.

I don't disagree with you that there is little to no "amateurism" in big time collegiate athletics, however, Riley and his AD are playing within the rules that govern them.

In addition, the QB position is the most important position on the field. Riley is protecting his big business by not letting a kid go to a conference school. Again, his job isn't to help those schools with in his conference, his job is to beat them.

Baker mayfield was an in conference transfer within the big 12 to Oklahoma. Lol

I hope y’all kept the same energy about his transfer. To the ones supporting Riley

Was Baker on scholarship while at his previous school?

i know he walked on at OU. This rule only applies to those on scholarship.

I actually can't recall allllllll these kids you say were denied by the admissions department. We (like other schools) usually just won't offer or take commitments from kids that are questionable academically- but even that "standard" has been extremely flexible with us. See Trayone Gray, etc.

The rest of our argument mainly centers on what Lincoln Riley CAN do here versus what he SHOULD do. And the "should" isn't just a right/wrong type of deal but a big picture one with him and that program too. He's riding high right now but this kind of stuff can also bite you pr-wise and that can eventually translate into recruiting-wise. Seems like a pretty small potato type of deal for him to be willing to take the negative blowback over that is coming.

im fine with the block. but im a win at all costs kinda guy, unlike most people.

besides, this is how rules get changed and progress is made. if enough people get upset, you'll finally see something get done.
