FYI, Cane was put to sleep. He was, and we had no idea, born with a defective liver. Its was about 1/8 the size it was supposed to be. He was fine until a couple days ago and went to **** in a couple days. Vet specialist said it was a miracle he lasted this long. For those talking **** about pits, he was the sweetest dog ever. Never bit anyone and absolutely loved everyone. I'm hurting. He just turned 2 last month.
Sorry for your loss, I had a chocolate lab that had numerous health problems later in her life and had to put her down. That was over a year and a half ago and I still tear up when I see her picture. The bond you have with your animals is something special and it hurts when they are gone.

I have 4 French Bulldogs.

Hugo
Camille
Irene
Ivan
Saving "Andrew" for when I can afford a lilac.

Ivan was born almost 6 weeks ago...

Losing a dog hurts so bad. We carry the ashes of our huge red Dobbie and our own pit whenever we move. Swore I would never get another dog cause it hurts too much. Finally gave into the wife four year ago. Now I have a black deer head chihuahua female who I just do not want to outlive. Trained her to be wife’s service dog(medicine alert) but I am her slave.

Right on about Pits. Ours was wonderfully sweet and playful but god help anyone who tried to touch ours kids. Back in the day, they were actually a common kid dog. The combo of playful and superb protection was perfect. Shame what breeding did to them.

I’m sorry for you’re loss Marshall. Keep your head up.

I recently had to put one of mine down aswell. She was 17. It’s hurts man. Some people will never understand the covenant between man and his APBT.

And for all the rejects talking crap about the breed. Go do some research. 98% of you have zero clue what you are talking about.

Hopefully I can educate you with this clear as day info.....

What was a Labrador Retriver bred to do? Retrieve. What was Pointer bred to do? Point.

APBT were initially bred for bull baiting. Look up what Bull baiting is if you don’t know. An APBT were bred to be elite athletic combat based bogs. Bull baiting once outlawed turned to dog matching. This is where the term “Pit” bull comes from.

These dogs have fighting in their DNA. They will always have dog aggression in their blood. This is what happens through 100 years of selective breeding and culling.

From the beginning of time- APBTS who were human aggressive were culled. Human aggression was bred out. No handler wanted a dog that could turn on him at a moments notice.

Now while I don’t condone dog matching, i acknowledge the history and I don’t ignore the truth of this breed.

The media wants to paint an entirely different picture. Which in turn is ruining this breed. They don’t even know what a real APBT even looks like, but they will be quick to say the dog that attacked was a “pit bull”.

I currently have two APBTs that can’t stand other dogs or animals. They will tear up any foreign animal that comes in my back yard. This wasn’t taught. I don’t train them to do that. They naturally have that drive. It’s bred in.

But they are as sweet as pie when my friends come over and bring their 4 year old kids. But at the same time I constantly oversee them and be a responsible dog owner.

Rant over

I worked at a local children’s hospital a few years back. We had plenty of dog bites and some of them pretty bad. Never once did the news media show up. One day I get to work and see a bunch of news trucks outside. as it has it someone called 911 and said that a pit bull attacked a kid. What actually happened is that a pitt got out of someone’s yard jumped on a kid the kid fell back and dislocated his shoulder. Kid never got bit not even a scratch. The mom freaked out when she saw what happened. I spoke too the kid and said the dog was licking his face. The news trucks heard the police scanners about a pit bull attack on a child and rushed to get the scoop at the ER. Pit bulls get major media attention and major fear despite being possibly the most owned bread of dog in the country. I gurtantee you almost everyone in this board knows someone that owns a pit. Many of the dog attacks attributed to Pitts aren’t even Pitts at all.
Sorry about your loss. I had to put my red nose down 2 years ago. Never laid a scratch on my twins and boy did they gang up on that girl.

I had female red nose. When she was 8 weeks a had her on a leash and saw a **** crossing the street. She lost her **** mind trying to go after it.
The same for other dogs. I worked a lot with her for her not to be dog aggressive early on and it worked. I was able to take her to dog parks with no problem. Makes it would be harder but it can be done. But I agree as a general rule Pitts by nature are more dog agreessive. As are other fighting ng breads that people never heard off like the Japanese Tosa. Inu.

Man I love pits . Used to have a red nose . Now I have two pits Cane 9 months and Taz 5 months . But I love other dogs and people in general. Feel completely safe having them around my 1 year old daughter. They only fight with each other but mostly just playing but they get a lil aggressive sometimes . I think it depends on the owner and how it’s raised. Truly aggressive dogs are taught to be so. If you have a pit from say 5 weeks old and you raise him well he will not just randomly decide to be overly aggressive .
