OT Gary Patterson

I agree as a black man gary patterson should not be saying that word. But if he tells player hey stop using the n word (without saying it) in meetings I have no problem with it. Neither player or coach should be saying it. Go talk to someone who grew up in that era and was called that word. Its nothing to play about
In all fairness, this kid sounds so stupid the N word HAD to be spelled out for him.

I think no one should say the word, but if this young black man keeps saying it when he shouldn't, he deserves to be called out on it. Saying the word to let someone know it's not cool to say it is not a bad thing. Patterson is doing the young man a service, but he's too entitled to see it.

So now we're onto, don't say ***** when you're trying to tell someone not to say ***** in your facilities? Coach said don't say ***** in my house and people take offense to that?

Am I reading this right?

WTF, if serious. Da ****? Man, this is becoming the most sensitive *** country in the world.

I wasn't there obviously, don't know if this is true, but in my most honest opinion this kid sounds soft AF.

Not excusing Patterson for saying the N word, that's never okay & if he did say that even in that context whatever punishment comes from that he'll deserve, he should know better...

But this kid just comes off like a ***** I'm sorry & I say that as a Black man that is in full support of players having the freedom & courage to speak up about whatever issues they've been going through.

Coaches being verbally or physically abusive are POS who deserve to get fired, I don't think that applies to Patterson in this situation but in general as a Coach you have to treat your players with respect & not like livestock. I hate coaches who have an ego trip & don't appreciate the sacrifice these players make laying their bodies on the line for them. Fuente for instance is an example of a POS coach. I just don't however think Patterson fits into that category just based on this incident if true.

Bruh; this dude starts off by saying “I was promised early playing time.” Lol. This dude is the epitome of Kleenex w/ Aloe my guy. His story time didn’t make no sense.

Im really despising the yr 2020!

I pretty much agree with the consensus here.

The player seems whiny, and honestly, lost as far as how to further his college careeer.

But this should be a lesson. White people should never ever use the word, even if they are scolding a player for using it.

What is so hard about saying “the N word” rather than the actual word, if you’re telling a player not to say it. Nonetheless, I don’t think the coach is going to be in big trouble - this time.

As far as players using that word in a meeting room, I can understand that rule. But if you’re having a spirited contact practice, or in games, or on the sidelines. It’s going to get used by the non-white players. A lot. That’s just reality.

But it doesn’t have to be reality on the playing field, or the sidelines, either.

Gary Patterson should know -- and honestly he probably does -- know better.

But also, context and intent matters.

Clearly the coach meant no harm or foul based on what is being reported. That's not to let him off the hook (he should be warned/reprimanded by HR and he should apologize to the team), but I'm not sure even in these charged times that this is deserving of much outrage.

In my opinion.

He would've KILLED it at UM....His 2013 TCU team was ripped off from a playoff spot....
Jimmy recommended him if I'm not mistaken.

Pretty funny that the two dudes Jimmy recommended -- who would've killed it here and won Championships I believe -- both stepped in it this offseason. The other guy Jimmy recommended was Gundy before we settled on Richt.

I only know what is, not what should be.

And I’m not telling grown *** men how to have conversations. I’ve been around it a lot, even been called the word myself. I’d sound like a real dweeb telling people this is how you have to talk, don’t talk that way.

If it’s going to change, it’s going to be an evolutionary change, and there has to be leadership that instills that it’s not OK to use the word. It can’t come from white people.
