I think in many cases where minors are involved, parents need to be made responsible especially if their kid used one of their guns., although this is probably not relevant to what happened today.
Seems so in this case

20 yo guy took his mother weapon who is also Leon County sheriff deputy

Both need to be held accountable

Don’t forget about Follies International by Hialeah Speedway…

My buddies took me there for my 18th birthday.
One of their dancers was 400plus pounds and I got pushed on-stage with her when she learned
it was my birthday. She put my head between her hooters and next thing I was jumping off stage like my hair was on fire.
I believe she was the same stripper in the movie "Porkies", so this was my brush with fame. Lol.

I believe there was a case somewhat recently in Georgia (?) where the parent(s) were indeed held responsible. I think the dad was indicted. I'm not sure what the outcome was.

The whole thing sucks. Many posters on this thread made some really valid points regarding societal decay, lack of fathers, too much screen time etc. I think each case is a little different, but certainly all of those elements and more come into play. For the couple folks making really dumb and inapropriate comments, c'mon man. I might be one of the more inappropriate d-bags on here at times, (heII, look at my stupid user name), but c'mon, even a knucklehead like me knows when to dial it back. This is way bigger than football rivalries.

And MI school shooting I believe both parents convicted. Little different since he is a minor though.

If the kid had no legal issues, there wouldn't be any reason why he couldn't have access to his parent's weapons.
If the kid is indeed 20, then his mother is guilty of a 3rd degree felony. Currently, anyone under the age of 21, in Florida, must be supervised by said parent to possess, transport and use said firearm.

*Have to correct myself. Applies to under 18, Age 21 applies to purchase.

Apparently they haven’t released a lot of the students yet.

I have a cousin that was in the Bellamy building when the shooting went down, now they’ve corralled them all into the Civic Center last I heard. I was just happy that I got a text saying he was OK.

But I was told pretty much it’s over and has been for a while. Now they just have do the investigations and law-enforcement has to clear all the buildings
Very glad to hear that your cousin is safe.

I don’t know laws in every state but down there it is perfectly fine to leave weapons out in the open??

Yes, she was a fixture there…LOL, finally found someone my age on this board. That’s my old hood, Hialeah before it was the Hialeah that everyone thinks they know. We would start our evenings at Follies ( pre game as they call it today ) from there get on palmetto / I 95 and head to Ft Lauderdale to the clubs, then finish at Casanovas.

Northern transplant in the South now, can say from what I've seen this **** is like a GTA server. Very little restrictions. Didn't wanna get a gun but might not have a choice some ppl are crazy.

And as expected, the Gov of Florida posted on X that he was sending his “prayers to…”. Every time I hear that same useless phrase in the context of people being murdered it drives me insane. When that is all the elected leaders can or will do, that tells me that either; a. Nothing can be done about mass shootings so lets just accept it as a fact of life, or b. Our political leaders have their hands in too many special interest pockets to do anything. In either case, when I hear the same useless words from a political leaders and zero action, I believe the next action is to remove that leader at the next election and demand more from the next. And I couldn’t care less about party affiliation.

Either do something about it, or get out. As to what to do, that is the debate, but the debate must be had outside of special interests groups. But I do agree with the Michigan case that held the parents responsible because not knowing that your child is so f*cking crazy as to commit mass murder should be a crime, especially when you buy him the weapon as they did. It is obviously trickier with a 20 year old but again, if that was my son, I would know if he was that crazy and I d*mn well would not let him have access to my gun. And that is doubly true if I was in law enforcement.

Florida did do something about it. They passed FS 790.22 after the Parkland shooter incident.

But how do we define age of majority, IF, the kid has no mental health issue and no criminal record at age 20.

You can drive a car at 16, vote at 18, Buy medical marijuana at 18, carry a machine gun in the military unsupervised at 18, but you can’t smoke cigarettes or buy alcohol or a gun until 21?

Honestly, where do we draw the line on what is an adult?

Yes, I'm familiar with this routine. LOL.
I remember a bunch of places in Broward, especially off or near Commercial Blvd, like Pete&Lennys, NaPantha (I think this was named) and others. Alot of these places owned by these old Greeks and I certainly remember Casanova's. There was also Hunters in Miami Springs.
I'm probably getting all the names mixed up, but I was certainly cool to drink and hit establishments at 18. Lol.

Funny ****…Backstreets was the other. Life is something, today I am 60, live in the Shenandoah Valley of VA on a farm. Long way from Miami but the heart will always remain in 305. CANES till I die !

Absolutely, yes. However, just because he had access to doesn’t mean it was out in the open.

It’s just as reasonable to believe it was in a safe or other secure location that he knew and had access to. We’re talking about a legal adult not a young kid.

If you have kids, you teach them anout everything, especially dangerous things like knives or guns. You don’t keep them a secret and hide them because that just makes it more of a “forbidden fruit” thing than something they know is dangerous and know why they should stay away from/only ask for supervised permission for.
