OT: Eddie Robinson Jr was right?

In most cases I would agree with you but not this one. HE is the one that said God called him to build/change not just JSU but HBCU’s as a whole. HE prematurely aborted that message. I knew he would leave sooner than later but not like this.

The whole "God called me..." stuff is unfortunately abused often and by many who should know and do better. If you are mislead by those sort of vows then it is on you....as for his bad timing...there is never a good time to leave, hire or fire folks...it is business...as the kids say, respect the decision.

I remember that one second I thought Deion would be at an HBCU forever…oh wait…

Good for Deion. He did his job and now he’s moving up.

Because he was FoS. He was there to coach his kid. Now he is recruiting big boy football.

He already out-recruited the big boys for the #1 recruit in America last year, He got a 4* that was crystal balled to us, and He just got another 4* DB out of Texas this year, to JSU!!!

Given that precedence, I think He'll do fine against the big boys.

I’m iffy on this topic @DHucks

I nvr attended a HBCU, but as a Greek, I’ve been to plenty of HBCU campuses. I know the history of HBCU & what they mean to our community, but also its underrated illustrious history to sports.

Here’s y I’m iffy:

It’s a person’s job to move up the ladder. If Deion was at any other FCS level school, built them up, brought notoriety to their program, & then moved to a better financial opportunity, there would be no fuss. It would be a “way to go, Coach Prime.” For that, I have no issues.

On the other side, Deion does so much got **** talking; &, so for him to gas up HBCU’s & point his finger at other institutions along w/ the young men for choosing those institutions over HBCU’s, JUST to go to one of these same institutions he was critical of, well now he looks like a hypocrite. In essence, what he did was not altruistic vs. a ploy to bring notoriety to himself.

That’s where I have a problem. If Sanders would’ve accepted a HBCU job as HC, talked about its history, his pride in being able to carry on its legacy, etc. then made a jump, I don’t think the fall out or call outs would be that great. It’s the finger pointing, convincing of young men to come there vs. a P5 b/c of him & what he’s trying to re-establish at the HBCU level, then leave…that’s the sour taste.
Couldn’t agree more. Coach prime has a humongous ego has plenty of money, and trophies, he wants to play with the big boys now. It is a sour taste because in the end to me it’s all about prime.

Don’t think it could have been said any better.

Sooooo how long was he supposed to stay at JSU? Forever? 10 years? What would’ve appeased everyone. He brought a ton of notoriety to HBCUs which is more than what most of the current coaches in the SWAC have done. It’s up to that leagues commissioner, coaches and the school presidents to take the baton and keep progressing.

Does the whole thing he did there and what he was pitching now look funny in the light now that he's going somewhere that he was trying to convince young black players not to go to? To come to a HBCU and lift it up?

No, He made HBCUs a legit landing spot for kids who otherwise would have gone to a lower level PWI, their ice ain't colder...well Jackson ain't got no clean drinking water but that's another matter LOL.

And how's Lil' Carter doing these days?

Was watching the video of him telling the team he was leaving and something stuck out what he said about players hopping in the portal because he’s leaving. Basically he said grass ain’t greener on the other side and a lot of you guys will get lost in the portal. Don’t think b/c you played here you will get picked up. I’m saying to myself half or over half these kids here because they brought into your vision and now you like I’m out. Then basically all but saying I’m not taking any of y’all but my sons and Travis Hunter.

I respect him for picking up the torch and moving it forward but **** if he ain’t ***** over alot of kids that could of went P5 but went to JSU to put on for the culture.

Depends on what the mission is. Is the mission to be a feeder for the NFL, or to produce young Black College graduates? When you focus on the mission, the decisions get easier. What is the value in being a feeder to the NFL when the percentage of Black male College graduates is falling? What does the community get from sending an Antonio Brown to the Pros? Personally, I think it is a bad fit. I think we should emulate the Ivy’s not the SEC. Create generations of leadership in medicine, business, politics, industry, etc., we already have the entertainment sector on lock!!! That won’t change whether the kid plays at JSU, or at Alabama. Honestly, we need more Byron Allen’s, not more Prime Times!!!

I think he was doing right with teaching the young men there , giving a good message and did a lot for JSU. That said if you think he meant all that HBCU stuff and it being a destination you got played.

He used JSU and got what everyone knew he wanted “ a power five gig”. Deion has always been a salesman with lots of charm. People with those characteristics tend to manipulate folks and they can’t see it. If was always whats best for him , he was just able to do positives for JSU while he was trying to do him. It’s a selfish game now and it was always a business relationship.

Bigger question is why do many of the HBCU alums not do more for their athletic programs? Speaking of Eddie Robinson Jr, I remember reading players on Grambling program complaining about locker room not being functional, including showers not working, etc....where are the alums and alleged fans of HBCUs?
Not defending Sanders but at end of day he is not HBCU alum, doesn't really owe those schools anything.
Keep in mind that the alums and fan bases of us HBCUs pail in comparison to major programs.

Noo. He brought notoriety. Improved the facilities. Brought NIL deals. Won and gave kids second chances. He has done enough.

Travis Hunter will be able to follow Deion. Majority of those kids were going to end up at that level. Those who took a chance can now follow Deion to a higher level
But Deion sold them on HBCUs with the claim that they don't need big time programs to succeed, and even as top recruits they should go there. Yet apparently HBCUs arent good enough for Deion's career?
