OT: Downfall of Tenn Football

Tennessee and Miami comparisons are complete garbage. Besides a delusional fanbase, they share nothing else in common.

Tennessee has a **** load of money to spend. Miami's problem was always being cheap.
Tennessee has a huge, rabid fanbase that can routinely fill a 100,000 seat stadium. Miami can't get 60,000 people to go to a game unless it's FSU.
Tennessee has to rely on recruiting nationally because the local talent is doo-doo. Miami can miss on the top local players and still have top 10 recruiting classes because there's just so many good local players.

They had a good thing going under Fulmer. Yeah they only have the one national title in recent history but they were consistently among the nation's better teams. They put a ton of dudes in the league and generated a ton of money. It's hard to blame them because you always want to be better but sometimes, you have to be realistic about where your program stands in the nation's hierarchy.

Miami has National Title Expectations while being cheap
Tenn Has National Title Expectations while being remote to a lot of talent

Both teams have been trying to hire the next Title winning coach with multiple failures, and the fan/booster impatience is not helping the cause there.

As for having a Top 10 class while missing on a lot of recruits, we've slipped all over the rankings in the last few decades. We had a 5 star recruit actually play for our positions coach and bug out last minute. The other schools know how to recruit Miami, and it doesn't matter that they are thousands of miles away in the sticks.

This is literally every team that has had prior success but is currently struggling.

This was my exact point. Despite missing two 5 star, local cornerbacks (who's level of commitment was debatable) Miami still finished with a top ten class that season. The talent level is such that you can actually miss on the best local players and still put together a fantastic class. Tennessee doesn't have that option.

Well, OK, but if you are looking specifically at that class it was infact HELPED by out of state players committing to us. Tennessee DOES have that luxury.
