On Myson Johnson-Cook

After watching @DMoney video last night, I feel a little better about this. Lets land Matthews and Folorunsho. There will be some dude who pops off for 2k rushing yards from obscurity somewhere in FL or GA we can probably get for under a hundred racks. It is the most replaceable position in football, along with off ball LB and box safety. It is also why I think Kaden ultimately winds up at Aggie.
I hope we are both wrong but we both see Henderson not ending up at UM for position value reasons.

My brain tells me this:

If this RB picked Auburn, for money or any other reason, over Miami then he doesn’t care about making the league.

You pass up a proven product (good OL, RB usage, draft results) for Auburn, then you get left behind.

You play RB for Golesh and you end up a nobody.

Weirdly, MJC might be shorting himself financially. I guarantee you Fletcher is better taken care of here than he would be at Auburn. Fletcher turned down being a Day 2 draft pick to stay at the U. There is a lot more real NIL you can get in a big market like Miami if he balls out. The exposure itself on a title contending team has a massive in-kind monetary value. In Auburn, it is only car dealerships, Dollar Generals and veterinary offices.

MJC might be prioritizing a quick bag. The long term greedy move would be to show out here.

He might think of it differently coming from a place like East St Louis.

In a position like running back, where it could all be over with one hit… tough ask telling a kid to pass up the guaranteed, biggest bag today.

The only Cook I'm worried about missing was Dalvin. Still hurts. War Keagles!

Believe the Auburn choice was a very poor one ... for the long term. What Miami is offering recruits today is MORE than NIL. Obviously there is coaching, development, playing time on a national stage and high probability of CFP, but on a more personal note Miami is very active in educating players regarding WEALTH MANAGEMENT, and establishing LONG TERM business contacts / relationships so that Miami football players are literally set for life if they become part of the "UM Family". Business contacts in one of the most dynamic international cities is something very few SEC programs can even dream of offering.

On the other hand...take the money while you can...injury or misfortune can strike at any time especially at RB

He saw money on table , sports car outside , he didn’t care about anything else .
He’ll recognize it soon enough of what he gave up at Miami by then it’ll be to late .

He has a child’s mentality and ignored everything he was told for his future.

He be crying for portal but way to much childish baggage to deal with .

No need here

I love this university but the right numbers get put in front of me I'm climbing that tree at Auburn and screaming War Damm Eagle🤣🤣
At least your up front , we can deal with it .

If you were a 5 star and said that , I’d say this dude knows he’s got the goods and only has a couple years in CFB before 1st round pick.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what you said 🙌.

I am sure he wants to get to the league but RB isn't even a premium position in the draft meaning if auburn offered a huge bag its likely more than he would make in the NFL with his first contract. as much as I don't like to lose I can respect the decision.

Never seen someone as soft as you so butthurt about a guy not picking Miami. Letting a 17 year old ruin your day is quite pathetic.

Nobody is spending 7 figures on a high school running back man. If what is being reported he got is real that's a **** NO. If he was the second coming of Barry Sanders then duh but we don't even know if he will be successful in Aubrn yet with what is around him...he was set up to be successful here. He didn't want that and I can understand why. We will get ours and be fine...we get the guys we need and everything else is cake...he wasn't a need as loaded as the running back room is...he was a plus
There isn't a salary cap in this here sport. Who cares whether it is $750,000 or $1,000,000, we are talking about resource allocation while missing out on our top RB and maybe our top OL. He is the perfect blend of size and speed for our offense. I understand why we didn't match, but I don't have to like it.

Read tea leaves here. We skimmed by with Mensah, rules may be changing to make it harder for kids to get out of deals to transfer. I don’t think it’s a coincidence this is the first cycle we land a top 3 QB since Mario has been here.
Let's be honest with ourselves. Abrams is a project. An athletic project. But still a project. His offer list would look a lot different if he was a polished prospect. I would have rather spent that money on Johnson-Cook, but time will tell.

1. You are literally stating assumptions as fact. You know we’ll portal over Abrams? That’s a fact? You literally made that up, you (nor I) have 0.1% of a clue how Abrams will turn out here.

2. How do you know this kid is a game changer? You mentioned Fletcher in talking about how important he was. And you’re right. Fletcher was the 143rd ranked overall recruit. Ty Keys right now is #212. Not a colossal difference. What if we sign him? He can’t be a game changer like Fletcher is?

3. What we’ve spent to bring him to campus is peanuts compared to what we’d spend the next 3 years. Yes, we’ve spent money on him to this point. It’s a fraction of a fraction compared to what you’re committing to him for the duration of his career.

I know you said hot takes, but those really make no sense at all.
I'll bite:

1. You are right, we don't know. But the sample size isn't so small anymore. Sure, it is an assumption, but from where you are sitting right now, today, do you think we are bringing in a portal QB next year? I'd bet the probability is above 75%.

2. That is fair. I'd rather bet on the guy with the perfect size and speed for our offense but fair enough.

3. If Auburn offered him guaranteed money for three years, then okay, that changes things. But as it stands today, we are committing to paying him for one year. If he's awesome, then we pay him more and that is a good problem to have. If he is a JAG, he portals elsewhere and he is someone else's problem. But if he is still here and getting paid as a junior, that means he is as advertised.

You can’t blame the kid for not coming. Miami is loaded at Running Back. In your post, you feel that he is elite. If that is the case, why would he wait two years to possibly hit the field as a starter?

At Auburn he will start day 1 or get significant playing time. When your team is playing for titles, recruiting will come in cycles because some rooms will be loaded
I don't really blame anyone here. I see why MJC took the money and early playing time and I see why Miami decided not to up the spend. If we went all in on him and we were "heartbroken" to see him go elsewhere, why not pony up the extra dough and worry about the math later?

Next year? LIke 2027? I'd bet yes as well, but that's not portaling over Abrams, he'd be a true freshman. We want to win natties, you'd be cool starting a true freshman? This is the first year we've signed a 5-star QB, I would certainly think the plan would be for him to start 2 seasons, at least. But that's not until 2028 and 2029.

Some of you are really pathetic. This guy hasn’t signed with anyone yet but here we are already predicting his future and wishing ill will on him.
