On Myson Johnson-Cook

Remember the meltdowns over Baxter and Gibson. Both underwhelmed at Texas and transferred. Another reason not to break the bank on a RB. We will see how Cooper does there.
Yup feels like the same meltdown on this board how the crooting class was a failure… just like the kid who picked bama to help his pops out

It ain’t the end if the world… and if he really is worth 7 figures we’ll see him in the portal after he proves it

I said it before but people think us or every school has dodgers money and can just give top dollar to every HS and portal commit

I’m doubtful that the list of human beings, at his size, who have run sub 10.5 100ms has more than single digits. In all of human’s history. . .. .. .

Hopefully we circle back as the year goes on.

Really hope we don’t have two rbs before the summer ends because like others mentioned, auburn has a tough road ahead of them. Get Keys in the fold and try to flip MJC with the same effort given to Jacobs and Bryant.
To me we dodged a potential issue. If he was driven purely by the bag we would be fighting to keep him every time someone came calling.

Hot take:

- Why are we spending god knows how much on a high school quarterback we will eventually portal over when we can spend a little extra on our top running back target?

- I get that RB is no longer a valuable position, but I do think a gamechanger in college is worth MUCH more than he would be in the NFL. Just look at how important Fletcher was last season and this kid is arguably more of a home run hitter.

- This one stings. Miami will be fine. But this one still stings. We keep talking about how we don't want to waste money on a running back, but we already did. We spent a bunch bringing him to campus and now have nothing to show for it.
Nobody is spending 7 figures on a high school running back man. If what is being reported he got is real that's a **** NO. If he was the second coming of Barry Sanders then duh but we don't even know if he will be successful in Aubrn yet with what is around him...he was set up to be successful here. He didn't want that and I can understand why. We will get ours and be fine...we get the guys we need and everything else is cake...he wasn't a need as loaded as the running back room is...he was a plus

Read tea leaves here. We skimmed by with Mensah, rules may be changing to make it harder for kids to get out of deals to transfer. I don’t think it’s a coincidence this is the first cycle we land a top 3 QB since Mario has been here.

1. You are literally stating assumptions as fact. You know we’ll portal over Abrams? That’s a fact? You literally made that up, you (nor I) have 0.1% of a clue how Abrams will turn out here.

2. How do you know this kid is a game changer? You mentioned Fletcher in talking about how important he was. And you’re right. Fletcher was the 143rd ranked overall recruit. Ty Keys right now is #212. Not a colossal difference. What if we sign him? He can’t be a game changer like Fletcher is?

3. What we’ve spent to bring him to campus is peanuts compared to what we’d spend the next 3 years. Yes, we’ve spent money on him to this point. It’s a fraction of a fraction compared to what you’re committing to him for the duration of his career.

I know you said hot takes, but those really make no sense at all.

If you spend big on a RB it should be a portal RB like when Ohio State spent big on Quinshon Judkins and in my opinion Judkins was the difference in Ole Miss not making the playoff b/c they couldn't run the ball and finish off any opponents in close games and he made Ohio State's offense impossible to defend b/c they had two stud RBs, a decent QB, a good TE, and Jeremiah.

I think with QB we spend but minimum, we target guys that schools are not throwing Arch Manning money at cause they dont believe in them. So we get depth pay cheap and go portal hunting for big names. Its the smartest thing to do cause QBs are difficult to evaluate. So they not throwing all this money at a HS QB with mad hype and then you stuck with Sayin or Manning and you cook your team. If Oklahoma believed in Coleman they would of backed up the brinks truck, same as Nickel UGA let him walk. These might be depth guys no matter how the fan base slurps over them, thats what it seems like the staff is doing creating quality depth that they dont want seeing the field unless a injury happens.

Give me Jacobs or another top edge, Matthews, and a top DT. Moten and scott are league bound we need elite talent to replace them. QB, RB, oline besides the elite talents should be viewed as positions that we can go in the portal or find without breaking the bank

Now if its an elite talent then get them of course but the big money should be mostly reserved for Dline and wr imo

Yep they have to be absolutely proven at the collage level to spend big on.

You can’t blame the kid for not coming. Miami is loaded at Running Back. In your post, you feel that he is elite. If that is the case, why would he wait two years to possibly hit the field as a starter?

At Auburn he will start day 1 or get significant playing time. When your team is playing for titles, recruiting will come in cycles because some rooms will be loaded

Yes. He was a “luxury”, not a necessity.

You can’t overspend on a RB when our room is so stacked.
Target the top back you want next year and start working him from now.

As for this year, I like the idea of finding a late sleeper from SoFla or Texas

The room is "stacked" now but can clear out easily by time he enroll because Fletcher will be a graduate and poortal will open

The big thing people continue to discount at RB is injuries. They happen all the time. When you at in the reality that most rooms are by committee these days, it’s important to have multiple high quality level starters at all times. A stacked room could be shaky after one bad Saturday.

I bet the staff saw more than just breakaway runs on his tape unlike those here who believe he's automatically a star already ...yes he has elite measurables to work with.....but if you watch entire game film he wasn't always breaking a lot of tackles or making the first man miss....

Yea I heard they turned down his commit.. :ibis-roflmao-sm3:

Thus the reason he's the #4 RB and not the #1 overall recruit like AP. Scary athlete but not a perfect prospect.

Pringle as junior > MJC freshman

But we will need a solid option in the 27 class like Keys and more importantly we need our next dude in 28 if it's not Javian.

After watching @DMoney video last night, I feel a little better about this. Lets land Matthews and Folorunsho. There will be some dude who pops off for 2k rushing yards from obscurity somewhere in FL or GA we can probably get for under a hundred racks. It is the most replaceable position in football, along with off ball LB and box safety. It is also why I think Kaden ultimately winds up at Aggie.
