On Myson Johnson-Cook

Incorrect…RB with good stats are easier.
Not mutually exclusive; ideally, and 95% of the time in practice, a prerequisite would be BOTH. 2 minutes of highlights is nothing—which is what Lacey has. Lacey played 3 teams with winning records on the year… his claim to fame is basically one run against Lone Star.

People expecting to win every recruiting battle. We get guys with 5 posts that only come to the board when we lose a game or miss on a recruit. Its hilarious seeing them lose their minds. Miami will lose more recruiting battles going forward but they also will win plenty. Its no coincidence that the kids we miss on get the longest running threads on here. Its a shame tho that we dont celebrate the kids that chose us more.
No lies detected here, but if you're into rainbows, butterflies, and everything nice, this may not be the place for you.

Best NFL analogy is the Cards taking Love at 3.

Its a salary cap game now just like the NFL. Throwing too much of your cap at a replacable position is not the way. Ditto with 'projecting' players unproven at the level you play at.

We always got RBs even when we were terrible (Miller/Duke/Walton/Fletcher). We HAVE TO HAVE top tier OL/DL guys. Thats where you allocate more money.
Even more nuanced is that salary cap is balanced amongst multiple players of similar skill sets in the same position group because they will be rotating out every 3 years or so. Meaning you might have a 4* junior, 4* soph, 4* freshman that you are paying similar numbers to. Overpaying for a 4* recruit could reset the entire structure of the room causing it to bump everyone’s number up. I think the teams you see losing contributors to the portal every year fall into this trap.

My thing is if TAMU puts another million or two on the table for matthews then what? At that point we should’ve taken double Olu and MJC rather than overpay to match for matthews. Or Joshua Sam Epelle for even cheaper.

Mark matthews is very good but he isn’t a cantwell level prospect imo. We say we’re stockpiling for the trenches, then the expectation shouldn’t just be on Matthews but rather on landing 2 of the 3 or 3 of the 3 from Jaiden Bryant, DJ Jacobs, and David Foloshorun as well.

We need DLine monsters way more than Oline monsters
AGREED!!!

Everyone keeps talking about Matthews man up the bag for Jacobs

Especially if we’re talking about oline, mirabal is great at developing and evaluating so that should factor into roster construction decisions too. Dline and wr should get the big bags

JJ quote :

You play with us or get beat by us !

Cook made a choice in money other then a team Miami who always has the best interest of the players and families at heart .

Ask any of our draft choices this year , ALL WANTED TO STAY TOGETHER!

Cook a causality of himself

Likely comes down to spending that money on Cook or Matthews. Spending it in the trenches, on both sides of the ball seems smarter to me. QB as well. It was nice knowing that Miami was better on OL and DL against every team they faced last year.
There is no evidence that it was either Johnson or Matthews. That is just a product of message board cope. It only materialized after the fact. What story gets spun if Matthews chooses elsewhere?

Imagine being an Auburn team who only has two commits and saying to yourself….yeah…let’s blow our wad on a Running Back. This is literally low level football operations on their end.

Let him go get some burn at Auburn, because he wasn’t getting it this year here anyways. We can always just take him from Auburn next year.

That is the mentality. Let other teams overpay and prep for us if we want to spend wisely on positions that aren’t of need.

Cook the person he is , will blow the money on his entourage without question.

He’ll over extended himself and get a bunch of women pregnant, taking his talents for granted.

Auburn is surrounding Cook with nothing, I wonder why Bama, Sooners and Texas all backed off this dude , look at the second level schools were left not counting us.

Think about that, this kid is no good now he’s with a team that’s no good.

A PERFECT FIT

Elite trench play is optimal. I'll take a stud OL/DL any day of the week, and twice on Sunday, over a stud Running Back, especially if they are commanding big money.

Elite trench play in college is even more of an advantage than in the NFL, because the disparity is greater between size/strength/etc

Not mutually exclusive

I wasn't the one who said they are

I'm just saying an eye popping, major d1 caliber run requires a certain ability…reading a 1300 RB stat line requires a certain context and then you check on the abilities.
