this is based on...?
This based on: he's smart, organized in practices and game prep, has a plan in recruiting and a plan for the program, has reached out to local HS coaches to re-build ties, has reached out to many other FL HS coaches (Orl, Tampa, etc) to build roads with their programs, has hired a competant staff, is handling the impending sanctions with dignity and character, won as many games at Temple as Radio did at Miami, is well spoken, respects the past but is focused on UM's future, has a legit QB competition for the first time in a decade, has started to redevelop roster management, has a pretty good track record of getting the most out of his players (see Feldman's star chart for Temple), uses social media to his advantage (unlike UM football in the past), is a true CEO of a big business that is really what a college football coach is (Coke and Randy were lost), realizes the local press can be an ally for his program and has treated them with class...
what else? want more?
meaningless. Miami was 6-6 with 2 wins vs interim coaches. his "competant" staff included several hold overs from the previous staff some of which chose to go else where and they were outcoached badly in 3 games they should have won and lost to a 2-10 and at the time 3-8 Boston college.
Winning is all that matters. all that other crap is secondary but if you want to corwn him based on that BS then go ahead. It's all about winning and this guy left alot to be desired with his performance on game nights.
Agree with 'winning is all that matters.' & don't get me wrong, I'm the type of fan who 'hates to lose more than I love to win.'
Did the Bulls, on their way to winning 6 always win (in MJ's early years)? No. But groundwork was laid...a hardwork ethic, a core group a leaders developed, young players learned how to win. When the Cowboys, prior to becoming a NFL dynasty, were losing...was the ground work being laid by the 'Big 3' and many others in Dallas of how to win. It took time to turn those programs into winners. Did UM, in '98 and '99...win every game? No. They lost games they should have won. Looking back, we obviously 'out-talented' people back then...but didn't go undefeated until '01. It takes time. Are we a really good team now? No. Are we a really bad team now? No. Are we getting better? Are young players stepping up and being coached, for the first time in a long time by position coaches and coordinators for more than 1 year? Yes. Ground work is being laid. I think this ground work comes from the top...the CEO. Make no mistake, today's college football coaches are CEO's...and Gold is keeping his coaches around for continuity. He is laying the ground work to win.
I'm not directly comparing past UM teams or UM football to the Bulls or Cowboys...just trying to show that there is a road to winning. I think we're finally on it. Our program now is, seemingly, doing alot of the other things (see above list) that other winning college football programs are doing.
