On Emmanuel Karnley...

There's honestly not that many non-jags in the portal. I'll share your sentiment if we don't at least make a play for some of the better guys in the portal. But honestly there is not that much out there (Haucey/Pena obviously 2 of them)…Maybe see some more enter in the next few days.
Miami betted on being aggressive this portal and things aren’t going as “planned.”

Normally, the 2nd portal is full of JAGs so your best bet is to back channel.

There is now enough history/data to know you need to address your portal needs in the winter. The spring window has to be primarily for minor tweaks, depth or maybe a younger, discount rate "traits" guy if you had some holes in your high school recruiting class. Cant rely on it for multiple starters at important positions.

Majority of the guys coming out now are depth chart casualties, money grabbers, character issues or busts. Most of the pre-portal chatter is just agents using the system for negotiating leverage as those guys were never that serious about jumping in. High quality frontline starters with leadership qualities are few and far between.

This is part of the problem with taking soo much time to address staff hires (or QB holes), it affects your ability to acquire the right talent in the winter window.

We got lucky last spring and pulled it off for the most part outside of DB. If we operate with the expectations that every year can be fruitful in the spring.... Thats just not a sound business strategy.

Who cares? We brought him in, he was the lowest man on the depth chart, so he bounced. I really don't see why this is even an issue. He didn't bang anyone's wife while he was here, did he? So who cares? He was here for a cup of coffee. We needed immediate help, we just threw a bunch of **** at a wall. Whatever didn't stick, would get swept up. He's the non-sticky ****. Move on.
Considering the deal he got to come here, you should care.

I never pretended to evaluate Karnley and was pretty clear about it.

My evaluation came later from watching him on Greentree, and I can comfortably say he was behind Lucas, Frederique, O'Connor and Brown.
No mention of Brantley though, the fix is in
