They better be on top of things and putting out feelers right away.

If we have no coach when the dead period ends we are ***ked.

Coley will be the interim HC and will hold **** together with Hurlie and Barrow until Petrino or Butch signs a contract.

Dude you are too realistic to think Petrino has any shot. I would love Butch but I dont see that happening either. I thik C4L hit it on the head. People are gonna be ****ed if we have to hire a new coach. Lord help us

No he's not. He's the quintessential Canes fan. Totally unrealistic and living in a dream world where its still 1989, every kid in the country wants to come here, and every coach in America is banging down the doors to coach here. Another one who thinks Donna Shalala is going to suddenly become a cut throat Football operative and go all in and put winning above the reputation of the University. OH and that were going to spend 3-4 Million dollars a year on a coach, when we have never paid more than under 2.5 million.

Curtis Johnson, Mario Cristobal, Tim Deruyter, Rod Carey, with a slim chance at Chud or Schiano.

I am sure coaches are calling into the U now.

LMAO, yeah, just like they were when we canned Randy right??

People VASTLY overestimate the attractiveness of this job. This is NOT an attractive job. It pays cr@p, the fan base sucks, and were going to be on NCAA probation.

Not sure why people havent learned after the last two "hiring processes" that we arent getting some big name coach. The guys calling here may be agents for the coach at NIU, Cristobal, and some NFL coordinators.

Think about this, there were College coordinators who pretty much laughed at us last time.

It has been reported in the press that both Petrino and Butch mentioned they would be interested if Golden left, so it isn't just me saying it.

OK. We are officially coachless. Let's face it at this point. May be a blessing in disguise.

C4L, you keep laughing at the Butch comments, which I'm with you on. And you keep pegging Cristobal.

I'd like your opinion on Chud. The timing can't be better. No NFL team is going to touch a guy that just got canned by Cleveland. He will not take a coordinator position immediately. So what's left? All the other big boys in CFB are naming Strong, Saban, Broyles, Sumlin, etc. Miami would make sense, no? Ties to the program, well respected from what we know, etc. Just seems like good timing.

Would be an A hire imo.

I know Butch has mentioned he would like to come back, but where exactly did Petrino say he was interested in the job?

Regardless of his D, Petrino wins. He's put up a lot of 10-11-12 win type seasons. A lot of coaches have good offenses or good D's but don't win a lot of games and fans think "well if we just get them a good coordinator everything will be okay!" but that's not really how it works. Petrino's D's weren't great, but he wins regardless.

Pointless discussion. After 3 years of embarassment and negative publicity in this NCAA debacle, and being on probation, you think Donna Shalala is going to even THINK about hiring Petrino? Or Butch? What planet do you guys live on. What on EARTH has Donna Shalala EVER done to make you think she would even consider that?

1. He pulled a Saban, and left with bad blood. Bad blood with who? Fans? Those UM officials are no longer with the school.
2. He did nothing to prevent John Blake from orchestrating major NCAA violations at UNC.
3. Donna wouldn't touch Butch with a fifty foot pole. Always three sides to every story. He also cleaned our image during the 90's, does that not count?
4. When has this administration ever hired a coach with a sketchy background? Valid point; however, if the AD feels Butch can save this program than they need to convince Shalala.
5. Why hasn't any other school called to inquiry about Butch, even though his payouts from UNC are over? Do you honestly think some SEC school wouldn't want the "best recruiter and developer of talent in the history of college football" on their staff? Who gives a ****? [/QUOTE]

Why not?

The only reason I would say maybe is she knows she needs the revenue from the Football program for her pet projects, and with attendance falling and us becoming less relevent, she may change her mind.

Chud would be the safe pick. Maybe she would let Butch come in as DC.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I would take Butch in a heartbeat - its just that I'm a pragmatist who realizes that it's never going to happen - Donna will get her way, and the football team will suffer for it.

I'm not a mope, and I refuse to get sucked into the Mope4Life vortex. That dude would find a way to shoot a blank in a wet dream. There are enough guys on here who put a negative spin on anything associated with UM. I'm a rational guy, and I see absolutely no reason why we can't hire a guy who cheated on his wife. Some of you guys act like he raped kids in the locker room.

He cheated on his fcking wife, which is something probably most of the Board at UM has done. Enough time has passed for all the gas bags who felt like they had to act like it was a big deal to now let him redeem himself on a big stage. It's time for redemption.

What the **** makes you think Shalala would make a good hire? Clearly not her track record

Exactly, and that is why we are very likely to end up with someone like Cristobal. Mark it down. All these cats dreaming about Petrino and Butch are going to be ready to hang themselves when they see who we end up with. The meltdown here is going to be hilariously epic.

Cristobal or heaven forbid Coley or Barrow. Actually, kill me if she hires any of those people

There is NO way they are hiring Barrow. Coley wont get it either. If they are to the point of considering Coley, they will hire Cristobal. Mario Cristobal is the baseline, I dont think we go below that level.

As Ive said now repeatedly, Curtis Johnson is a name to keep an eye on .

Hope so. I could get behind Curtis Johnson being hired but we are in desperate need of program rejuvenation. If we fail this time around the U as we once knew it will never happen again. We are so far removed from our glory days yet everyone thinks people want to coach here.

As a Tulane alum, CJ is not ready. He's on his way, but not now. He needs 3-4 more years.

An A hire?

Please show me where he has a track record of successfully running a team or programme.

We'd be taking a big leap of faith with Chudzinski.

I don't understand how him leaving isn't considered good news.

He is a fraud and wasn't going to win a **** thing unless he stacked the roster to ridiculous levels. With that contract extension he signed we'd be in a terrible situation very soon.

Maybe short term this hurts but long term this is a huge positive if the AD makes a good hire.

This is where someone has to step up and tell her she needs to get out of AD's way. The next head coach hire is too important and could potentially determine the survival of the Football program.

I do not want ******* Chud I'll tell you that much. ******* Dbag.

"He's a douche. No one on offense trusts him." Text from a player regarding Rob Chudzinski.

@dropkine Appears they are signing the paperwork tomorrow with @GoldenAl. He's a Penn State guy coming home.
Retweeted by Nigel Bethel II

The guy is more of a nobody than most posters here. Bethel is a clown retweeting him

That was the interesting part was Bethel retweet, and to Al's account.

Bethel is probably happy Al is leaving so he can get a REAL Defensive Coordinator at the college level. He also tweeted that he will not decommit if Al leaves.

Is this what you would call a good hire?
