Two rules for hiring a new coach, follow them and we are back. Don't and we aren't.

NFL coordinator who had won a title as a coordinator and failed as a HC, has to have charisma/players coach.

Current or former HC at a lower end BCS program who did solid to great that coordinated under an elite college coach.

Guys who pass these rules: (Schnelly, JJ, Butch)Schiano, Dantonio, Strong, Mike Stoops, Steve Spagnuolo, Josh McDaniels, Jack Del Rio, Dan Mullen......I'm sure there are several other NFL guys I can't think of...Guys who were taken before we could who fit this: Sumlin, Sarkisian.

Guys who fail these rules: (Coker, Shannon, Golden, Dennis Erickson) James Franklin, Cristobal, Chud, Patterson, Kirby Smart, Muschamp, Kiffin, and on and on.

Is it coincidence that every coach we had who didn't fit within these rules failed here, and the ones who did had wild success?

Dennis Erickson failed these rules but won two chippers here? While not perfect I doubt he could be considered a failure. He had some positive qualities unlike Coker.

Coker won a ship too. Both let the program rot and eventually were seen as having won with the previous coaches failures. Dennis brought as much bad in the end as he did good. Same as Coker. Both have rings, neither is a guy who built or sustained the program, in fact both did the opposite. And this is from a Dennis fan, I personally like the guy. But he rode JJs wave and when it died showed who he really was.

Coker couldn't hold Erickson jock strap and it isn't even close. Just stop.

This isn't a ****ing contest of who was a better coach. Dennis was CLEARLY a better coach. But neither was the RIGHT coach for this school, ESPECIALLY given our current situation. Dennis coming off of what JJ built was great. Dennis coming off what we have now WOULD NEVER WORK. Thats the whole point.

I heard (from someone who knows someone at UM), that Golden was offered the job by PSU and he has 72 hours to accept.

Realistically, how bad would the recruiting class fall apart if Golden leaves but we retain Coley?

It wouldn't fall apart at all. Golden doesn't do the day to day recruiting anyway. Coley has a lot more contact with recruits than Golden does.

Sorry *** Larry Coker held Butch Davis's class together. Not only did he hold it together, but he added guys like Gore and Parrish. I think he also added Kellen Winslow II that year too after Butch split.

Dudes need to cut the melodrama. If Valentine leaves, then he was going to leave already anyway. There's been plenty of hints he was going to leave even if Golden stays. His relationship is with the great Hurlie Brown, not with B***.

Narduzzi.

This guy plays a Miami-worthy brand of defense.

Is he ready for a HC gig though?

I will have to do some more research on the dude. But anybody who modeled his defensive concepts from Jimmie Johnson is OK in my book.

Love the guy, but again hiring a coordinator directly from beng a coordinator is massively risky. We can't afford the risk, not at this school, not at this time. Yes he could be great.....Or he could be Muschamp. There's no way of knowing until you see if the guy can actually manage a team, and Miami is not a place for a coach to find out if he has those skills.

Things that would make me not care about Golden leaving:

Confidence that the Admin would hire the right guy.

Confidence that the Admin would hire someone in a timely manner.

So I guess you are freaking out right about now huh? You should be...

I do hear what you are saying here man. I guess it's not that I am pushing for him to leave, but really I don't see it being a big loss I guess. Yes, we can, and have done worse. But, I think there will be more pressure this time around to make a good hire. I know that might be a bit optimistic but the Golden hiring was actually a step in the right direction for us, and the basketball team did the same thing.

You guys are really gonna make us thumb through a 86 page thread just to get the latest updates? Lol. Smh. ****.

Shalala is about due to use the UM HC job as another social experiment. Won't be surprised if our next coach is a homosexual or a female. :(

:)

In addition, if the modern day equivalent of Dennis came here in 2014 he'd win no titles. Why? Bc the program isn't built yet. He'd have no program to ride with his innovative scheme. That's why I don't consider him or his ilk as an appropriate hire.

Follow the rules, follow the wins.

How does Dan Mullin "pass" your rules?

Even if we lose some key guys, that's offset by Petrino's superior coaching.
