OC thread

Good....fantastic even...but it's still a pipe dream. He has a HC gig and will only become an OC in college is if he's fired.

Possible but theres no way to say for certain. Hes not getting paid ****, and he could be tired of working with lesser talent. Did he leave Bama cus he wanted to be HC, or cus he couldnt stand working with Sabans ***? What would u do if you were him and someine said come be OC and will double your pay? Its not a crazy idea.

The Fedora idea is also hilarious because Rick f#ckin hated that guy. Manny is teabagging Rick right now. Sh#tcanning basically Rick's entire awful staff and possibly hiring a dude Rick hates.

Something to consider: several folks on our defensive staff have said (off the record) that UNC's offense was the most difficult scheme to prepare for. Fedora also fits the killer, run-up-the-score mold.

Who was it Shannon hired saying this? I think it was Patrick nix😳

He's Tom Herman's guy. They go back a ways. Saban thought enough of him to make him OC at 29. Played qb at a high level and runs spread concepts. A very competitive guy. I think he has all the check marks you would want. Hiring D'No is probably not why he should be a HC but he has tons of experience on offense and no reason to think he could not be successful as an OC here.
Sabag also thought little enough of him to fire him after one season.

This is what scares me. UNC was the only team we faced with worse QBs than Rosier. Their offense has also been pretty bad the past two years without Trubisky/Williams.
So then not worse than Rosier. In 7 years at UNC he put TJ Yates, Marquise Williams, and Trubisky in the league. But yes their QBs the past 2 years were trash

Probably wasn't ready for that gig but Saban still took a shot with him; then Mack Brown, and then Tom Herman. Those guys thought enough of him too.

Let's post news and ideas here.

The name that intrigues me is Bill Bedenbaugh, co-OC Oklahoma. His name has been brought up before and it makes a ton of sense, especially now that we have a fresh start with Manny.

Lifelong Air Raid guy (played under Leach), has been around the best playcallers in the game, elite OL coach and evaluator of OL talent. He can help address our two biggest needs. The knock, and it's a big one, is that he's never called plays.

I don’t want air raid

Spread concepts yes...wing it yes...but please remain physical. “Air raid” and all that gimmicky stuff goes out the window and gets the brakes beat off it by physical sec in the ship every year

Please remain balanced and be able to hit someone in the teeth when you need to

He never coached Yates. He didn't recruit williams. Credit for Trubisky but his qbs the last 2 years were every bit as bad as rosey

Bedenbaugh/Riley added a power run element to the Air Raid. Counters were/are a staple of the O. Oklahoma became more run oriented AFTER Riley was hired.

Ya I wasn't referring to him specifically, just cringe when I see the word air raid...Need balance. Balance is what is needed

To quote Mike Leach:

"There’s nothing balanced about 50% run, 50% pass…that’s just 50% stupid.

Now, what is balanced is when you have five skill positions and all five of them are contributing to the offensive effort in a somewhat equal fashion, and that is balanced. But this notion that if you had it off to this one guy 50% of the time and then you throw it to a combination of these two guys the other 50% of the time, that you’re really balanced then you probably pat yourself on the back and tell yourself that, and people have been doing that for decades. Well, you’re delusional.”

As long as he gets rid of the Just For Men beard.

Leach would've been something else here man

That’s what concerns me. James doesn’t know **** about football. I hope we don’t have our glory days players whispering “we’re Miami bro, we need a pro style offense bro” in his ear. Or worse, mandating that certain coaches need to stay on staff.
That’s a legit concern that I share. Most of our former players are stuck in a time warp.

Alabaga had the same problem with the idiot Bear disciple guys that kept clogging them up forever until they finally went with Sabag.

I like how the Alabama DL was giving Oklahoma OL props for adjusting.

idk if they have replayed the film yet...but what I saw live and in person from a strong vantage point...was the only adjustment being made was by Alabama from rushing 5 to rushing 3 and 4 for the rest of the game after they got up by 28.

What that game showed me was that disparity between Alabama's DL play and the best OL in the country is a canyon at this point and that iDL > your fave position.

Also, the absolute MUGGING that Alabama's CBs did to OU's wide receivers was comical. Saivion Smith assaulted, with prejudice, CeeDee Lamb on many occasions with one arm. Hollywood Brown was a non-factor and couldn't get off the line.

I know, the reality is, we aren't even competing with Alabama or even Clemson at this point...but be careful of wanting these Air Raid concepts. They'll get us to the top of the Coastal. But big boy football is all about iDL, big physical corners, and running the football. We aren't playing in the Big XII.
