Now what ?

Coming into this game I said ten wins is what I expected , leaving the game nothing has changed. We went up in weight class and got smacked back down to where we came from. We‘re a light heavy weight that skipped cruiser weight . heavy weight and jumped to super heavyweight , then received the realistic result, knocked out with ease.

We faced a machine that has far better talent , coaching and culture. It’s a professional ran college program thats playing on a different level than anyone else. From the amount of money they spend in their program on down. That being said here’s what I saw.

Miami once again came out overwhelmed in a big moment , the staff and players couldn't handle the pressure of all the bright lights.

The tackling continues to be atrocious, just like last year we look lost in space.

We were very aggressive and brought 5, 6 and even seven guys but the blitzes are slow developing , obvious to everyone in the building because of zero disguise. Their qb was eating the pressures alive. They knew all the answers in pre snap.

Even though we ran more man we still didn’t allow our cb’s to use their hands like the talk had been, there was plenty of free release which will always put guys like Ivey at a disadvantage. Ts and Couch are easily the best cb’s.

Our front seven looked like a pac 12 defense versus Bama. We won’t be a big boy program until we get difference makers in the trenches.

Play calling on offense was atrocious early , another game where Lashlee came up small and coached scared. The slow developing runs leave me scratching my head, at this point he’s pretty good. Nothing more.

Going into this season I said the ol and de’s were my concern, well going forward I think the ol will be ok. They’re definitely better than last year. After Oluwaseun entered the game it was night and day difference, we had lanes and made pretty good pockets from the second quarter on. As for as Scaife goes , it’s over. He’s a backup and nothing more. As a whole the ol held up better than it did against some acc schools last year. I take that as one of the few positives.

I posted in spring Don was special, he’d ran away with the gig then he got hurt. He showed yesterday he’s a difference maker , he’s explosive and runs violent. Cam is what he is , a rotational guy, not a horse. I want to see more of Don ( we will), Rooster ( after suspension ) and eventually Brown. Cam has no lateral movement and goes down way too easy.

Wr’s were another positive , when given a chance they made plays , they were constantly running free in the secondary and we just couldn’t make them pay. Either the pocket broke down or king left early.

I love king but he’s limited as a passer. He still continues to cause some sacks scrambling , even if there’s a good pocket around him. He still has some of the same issues as last year.

Mallory still can’t block.

As for manny , we’re going into year three and that’s when I start coming to my full decision. What I know so far ? We show up flat most weeks, we don’t seem to be developing our recruits ,only the transfers seem to improve . We lack fundamentals and look like a badly coached team without discipline. At this point there’s no arguing this.

As I said earlier I still expect a positive season and this is a good team. There’s nobody we’ll face in the same stratosphere as Bama going forward , even Clemson. I saw enough of the o to think it’ll score a lot of points most weeks but will have issues against teams with better talent. So minus Clemson we’ll have the advantage on saturdays. If we can’t hit ten wins with this schedule there better be no extensions . That’ll make next year do or die.

The next few weeks will shed a good light on where manny and the program is headed , if we show up flat and uninspired like previous years after a loss then it’s safe to say we’re not improving , it’s just more of the same. If it’s the opposite then maybe things are going in the positive direction.

I try to be level headed and not too emotional on this stuff , that’s why I’m not taking too much from a game that nobody expected us to win, we were a 3 td dog. But I’m still not happy with things that continue to show up on Saturdays , issues we can’t seem to fix.

Now I’ll let everyone get back to losing their minds and talking Mannys replacement.
I said the same thing about the WR. I thought they were good when they were given a chance. They are gonna destroy DBs if King can get them the ball

I thought Flagg played very well vs Bama, kid gets way too much flack

We are never going to win anything or be more than an 8-9 win team with either one of the Coordinators we have…Lashlee showed me yesterday he isn’t willing to change his offense when he ran on 3rd and 7 up the middle into the best front 7 in CFB with a play that hasn’t gained a total of 10 yds in all the attempts since he’s been here.

‘And I’m not sure why people expect any more of Manny’s defense than what it’s been since he’s been a DC. it’s the same system that’s gotten him fired at most of the places he’s run it at.
His defense only works when it causes multiple sacks and tackles for loss and the other team is turning the ball over. It’s why we can’t beat the better teams. They don’t turn the ball over and their Olines are good enough that we can’t run roughshod over them causing havoc in the backfield.

‘Manny has done a good/great job in the off-season with the portal and recruiting but when it comes to the season he’s pigheaded stubborn when it comes to his ****** defensive scheme and he doesn’t know enough about offense to choose an OC that’s worth a ****.

Manny is learning how to be a HC OTJ but to do that he has to put a lot better coordinators around himself. He needs to hire a proven DC then leave him alone and let him insert whatever system he wants instead of insisting he run his scheme which hasn’t worked anywhere.
Then he needs to get with JJ or Someone of this stature and hire someone they recommend because he has no clue about offense.

we have a lot better coaches on staff now Than we’ve had for quite a few years but what we don’t have are coordinators that are worth a sHT.Until we change them it’s not going to change one bit.You can have as many 4* and 5* as you want but if the coordinators refuse to use them or know how to put them in the right positions all else won’t matter.

Manny was only fired once and that was to save Mack Browns *** a little longer

watched the game again.

Many people will disagree but everything is fixable. This year !

Bad play calling/game plan is fixable, easily actually

Tackling Fundamentals can be fixed, some will disagree

Players out of position, Thats why you coach all year, not just in camp

Play the right guys, another easy fix, it’s not hard

It all comes down to one thing , Coaching.

Manny is not dumb, I’m sure he sees all this. It’s up to him and his staff he hired to get on it and fix it.

This year , as the year progresses and if he dose not, if we do not see vast improvements as the year goes on,

Then Manny and his staff are not the right people for the job.
How do you fix badplaycalling when the playcaller doesnt see anything wrong and thinks the players just have to play better.. Cam dive will work guys, just watch..

Tackling has been an issue for awhile, Im talking multiple years, soo many games where are tackling sucks, it wont change when we now have smaller players..

They wont play the right guys because corches value "experience" over talent, even if the experience SUCKS, remember it took this staff til like game 7 to start a talent like Rousseau, even had someone like susan asking every week when he would start and they were clueless like huh he plays in the game.

Manny is dumb and saban basically said his mickey mouse scheme is dumb and we gon light that **** up. They knew every blitz coming from January and had that **** stamped out while guys run wide open.

We will pillow fight with terrible ACC teams and they will try to sell progress but we know the real, we cant eat at the big boy table because we garbage

He did this several times last year too. If you're going to concede defeat in the 1st quarter why even bother waking up in the morning?

invest Coral Gables and it’s soul on the trenches … we need big dogs and we don’t have them.
OL #1 priority now and always will
Keep Kelly and Shemar in the Gables
get two more war daddys at DT to go along LT
Keep the DB recruiting class intact ..we need them all
recruit UM LBs .. size/speed
Keep GARCIA ANS BROWN at all cost.. we could hit gold with those two

HUGE UPGRADE COACH AND OC!.. to lead and develop above talent

of course we need total commitment from the university and the AD WHICH WE DONT HAVE IT AS OF NOW
How many olineman we have committed? How many war daddies? Do we have any actual UM caliber LB with size and speed coming?

@Cribby my guy I hear you!

Here’s where the issues are:

Bad tackling is a coaching issue/flaw. There are no excuses for it.

playing older guys simply because they’re older is a coaching flaw. Coaches pick who goes out there

Starting a kid whose never done anything significant here like Cam Davis AND then running a game plan that features HIM OVER a 6th year sr. leading the team at QB is once again a coaching flaw.

These coaches in every big game we play literally hurt us more than they help. If we went out and actually played hard and fundamentally sound and ran a scheme that made sense and still lost then we’d know we weren’t ready. BUT WE NEVER go out with our best effort. Time and time again we hinder ourselves. I’ve never seen anything like it.

You mention big trench bullies- we FINALLY land the best DT in the nation and he gets no burn??? Once again, WE DONT EVEN TRY TO HELP OURSELVES.

ITS infuriating. This coaching staff makes you root for the other team to smash you.
I agree with ur post big dawg & we all hurting today. But I’ll never root for the other team to smash us. Not even when Golden was coaching

The problem is that we have had these issues for the past 5 years. The fact that a division 1 football player cant tackle is honestly embarrassing. And we haven't had a good play caller in a while

Being honest its amazing what this program did for 20 + years. An administration that never cared for football and at times separated itself from it yet we still won. Building a powerful brand and following. Howard selling kids to stay home and rep it’s home created a dynasty. Not money , not facilities ,not pr but more winning in spite of the administration. Nothing like that will ever happen again. It was truly special.
I’ve said it many times on here that we caught the CFB world by surprise during that incredible run in the 80’s and 90’s. The sustained success even after losing HC’s every 4 or 5 years was truly miraculous.

The rest of CFB caught up coupled with lousy HC hires have brought us to where we are today. We will never surprise anybody again. Our only hope is that we hire a transformational HC and AD that prioritizes the football program. The current AD is not it and the jury is still out on the current HC.

Something not mentioned about Sabag and Bama is that Sabag didn’t walk into a program with no history of championship football and totally transform it into a championship caliber program. He took full advantage of the available “resources” built in through the years and perfected the CFB business model.

Cribby,
Thank you for your thoughts. As a lifelong Canes fan, explain to me the poor tackling? It's ongoing and just doesn't seem to improve year over year over year. It's a major headscratcher to me as these guys have been playing football for years and you don't tackle? Wondering if it's lack of effort, poor practice habits or in some cases not caring to improve your skill.

Of all things you pointed out, the poor tackling grinds my gears more than anything else. Literally yelling at the TV as if these young men could here me! Lol...seriously, I truly believe the game would've been closer if the team overall tackled better.
